Obituary

Gene Wilbert Britton, 88, passed away peacefully late Wednesday, September 20, 2017 in The Woodlands, Texas. He was born December 16, 1928 to Wilbert and Ruth Etta (Dunbar) Britton in Independence, Kansas. Gene graduated with a degree in Chemical Engineering from Kansas State University in 1950 and subsequently obtained a Master's Degree in Chemical Engineering from Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas. He began his career with Phillips Petroleum Company as a Chemical Engineer in Borger, Texas in 1950. He then enlisted and served in the Navy during the Korean War earning the rank of Lieutenant. Upon discharge, Gene returned to his position at Phillips Petroleum in Borger, Texas. On August 19, 1956, he married Patricia Sanders in Borger, Texas. He remained at Phillips Petroleum in Borger until his retirement in 1991. Gene held patents on petroleum processes which are still in use today. Gene was an active member in the United Methodist Church and the Lions Club.

He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife, Patricia, of The Woodlands, Texas; his son, Jerry Britton of The Woodlands, Texas; his daughter, Pamela Yates of Lewisville, Texas; 2 grandchildren, Robert Britton of Dallas, Texas and Michelle Clark of Lewisville, Texas; one great granddaughter, Ryleigh Bonnegent as well as other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held, Sunday September 24th from 5:00 pm until 8:00 p.m. at the Klein Funeral Home in Magnolia, Texas.
