Gary Charles Smyth, age 71, entered into eternal rest Monday, August 9, 2021. Born in Texas, he was the son of the late Jim and Barbara Smyth. He graduated from Lafayette High School in 1968 and earned a bachelor's degree of Business Administration at Louisiana State University. For over 30 years Gary had a successful career in various management positions, primarily in the steel industry. He was an extremely gifted leader and had the unique ability to handle the volatile steel market leading to a successful steel company he built in the latter part of his career.
Gary was formerly married to Francesca Smyth Derden in Houston, TX. They have three children James, Sarah, and Timothy, who were the pride and joy of his life. He always beamed with such love whenever he spoke of them. Gary was the kind of person who would light up any room he walked into with his positive genuine spirit. His infectious smile and sense of humor were legendary and paired well with his gentle nature and enthusiasm for life. He loved spending time with family and friends which were always treasured moments for him. He loved to golf, often playing 3 to 4 times per week while enjoying the camaraderie of his golf buddies. Although Gary graduated from L.S.U., his favorite sports team was the Texas Longhorns, mostly due to his parents, children, nephews and nieces' affiliation with The University.
Gary was a man who consistently made his family and friends his priority, always lending his love, support, and encouragement. His faith and love for Jesus Christ were the cornerstone of his life's foundation. He deeply impacted many people, leaving behind a legacy of laughter and heartfelt memories.
Gary was preceded in death by his father, Jim and his mother, Barbara. He is survived by his three children James, Sarah and Timothy and his wife, Lidia; granddaughter Charlotte, whom he absolutely adored, of Houston, TX; his sister, Susan Alberty and her husband Mark, and their three children Amy, Matt and Jeff of Houston, Texas.
