Gary Oscarson, 77, of Cypress, Texas, peacefully went to be with the Lord early Friday, May 22, 2026.

Gary was born on December 30, 1948, to Lynal and Baris (Matheson) Oscarson on the family farm in Western Township near Breckenridge, Minnesota. He grew up attending Vukku Lutheran Church, where he was confirmed. As the oldest of nine children, he learned responsibility early while helping on the farm, shaping the strong work ethic and discipline he carried throughout his life.

After graduating from Campbell Public School, Gary served in the United States Navy. He later built a life centered around providing for his family.

Gary married Kathleen on July 14, 1981, in Bartlett, Illinois. In 1991, he moved to Rockford, Illinois, where he and Kathy raised their family together.

Gary spent many years working as an over-the-road truck driver, dedicating long hours to ensure his family was cared for. Over the years, he worked for DH Martin Petroleum, Newman Oil, Laidlaw, Safety-Kleen, and Clean Harbors, building a career defined by dedication and hard work.

Gary appreciated the simple things in life, including country music, gospel music, westerns, and a slower pace. He found joy in caring for his home, maintaining a neat yard, serving coffee and donuts at church, and taking long, unhurried walks, talking with neighbors. He believed in working hard, saving wisely, and taking time to enjoy life along the way.

After retiring in 2015, Gary and his wife moved to Texas, where he embraced a slower season and spent meaningful time with his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed attending their activities and being present in their everyday lives.

A man of faith, Gary later rededicated his life to Jesus at City First Church in Rockford, IL. He lived his faith quietly through humility, service, and gratitude.

Gary is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Kathleen Oscarson of Houston, Texas; his children, Justin (Heather) Oscarson of Brookfield, Wisconsin, and Danielle (Dan) Peña of Folsom, California; and his grandchildren, Derek Oscarson, Taylor Peña, and Braxton Peña.

He is also survived by his siblings, Karen Platt of Breckenridge, Ruth Midboe of Fergus Falls, Phyllis (Jeffrey) Kephart of Oconto, Wisconsin, Michael (Charmaine) Oscarson of North Charleston, South Carolina, Dale (Deanna) Oscarson of Marietta, Georgia, and Susan (Daniel) Flor of Oconomowoc, Wisconsin; and his sister-in-law, Jill Oscarson of Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin.

Gary was preceded in death by his brothers, David Oscarson and Rick Oscarson; his parents, Lynal and Baris Oscarson; his brother-in-law, Roger Platt; and his nephew, Jason Platt.

He is also lovingly remembered by many nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life will be held at City First Church, 5950 Spring Creek Rd., Rockford, Illinois 61114 on July 18, 2026 with a visitation from 10-11 a.m. and a service to follow from 11-12 p.m.  A public committal service with military honors will follow in Fergus Falls, Minnesota (graveside only) at First Lutheran North Cemetery, 24261 190th Ave., Fergus Falls, MN (located just outside Fergus on Hwy 59) at 11 a.m. on July 20, 2026, followed by a picnic at park shelter.

His gentle and tender nature will be deeply missed by all who knew him and will never be forgotten.
