Gary La Mar Turpin, 79, passed away on March 17, 2026, in Marseille, France.
Born on October 9, 1946, in Monticello Illinois, Gary lived a life defined by faith, dedication, kindness, and unwavering love for his family. He was the devoted husband of Sandra Southwick Turpin, with whom he shared a lifetime of partnership, adventure and affection. He was the son of Charles Cecil Turpin and Grace Page, both of whom preceded him in death.
Gary built a successful career with Conoco in global lubricant sales before later working with Citgo. His professional life was marked by integrity, curiosity, and a genuine interest in the people he served. Gary and Sandi recently moved to Magnolia, Texas. Those who knew him will remember his steady presence, generous spirit, and quiet strength.
Gary's love for France began at age 19 during a 2½‑year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter‑Day Saints in the French Mission. As a devout member of the Church of Jesus Christ of latter-day Saints, that experience shaped his life in meaningful ways, and he and Sandi returned to France many times throughout their marriage, cherishing the culture, language, and memories they created together.
Gary passed away while traveling abroad, and he has been brought home to Texas to be laid to rest among the family and friends who loved him dearly.
He is survived by his loving wife, Sandra; his four children, Charles Jason Turpin, Danielle Janee Martinez, Angela Nicole Bailey, and Marissa Dawn Sutherland; 23 grandchildren; and 14 great‑grandchildren. His legacy lives on in each of them.
Gary's memory will be treasured by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
