Garrett Jackson Hemeyer

November 8, 2000 – September 9, 2026

Garrett Jackson Hemeyer, 25, beloved son, brother, uncle, grandson, cousin, and loyal friend, fell asleep in the Lord and went home to be with Jesus at 11am on September 9, 2026.

Garrett was born on November 8, 2000, in Houston, Texas, to Gary Lee Hemeyer and Christina Marie Medrano-Hemeyer. He grew up in Spring, Texas, before moving with his family to Windsor, Colorado, in 2014.

From an early age, Garrett possessed a quiet strength and maturity beyond his years. He was smart, kind, humble, thoughtful, strong, handsome, fiercely loyal, and genuinely funny. His quick wit could make an entire room laugh, often when it was needed most.

Garrett loved his family. He was a respectful and loving son and had a particularly tender place in his heart for his Momma.

He loved being a brother to his two sisters, Kamran and Juliet. Kamran was a doting and caring big sister who loved on her brother from the day he was born. Garrett was very close in age to his youngest sister, Juliet, and they had a very special relationship. He loved his older sister Kamran, her husband Tate, and being Uncle Bubba to his niece Tatum and nephew Knox. Garrett loved them all and poured into their lives with love and laughter.

Garrett attended Providence Classical School in Spring, Texas, from kindergarten through seventh grade. After moving to Colorado, he attended Resurrection Christian School in Loveland, Colorado from eighth grade through his senior year, graduating in May 2019.

Athletics were an important part of Garrett’s childhood and teenage years. He played school and club basketball and baseball and also played lacrosse.

After high school, Garrett attended Texas Tech University in Lubbock, studying Construction Science. He later attended Kansas State University in Manhattan, Kansas for a year before returning to Texas Tech and pursuing a degree in accounting.

Garrett worked for High Craft helping build homes. He also put his hands and creativity to work building corn hole boards and working with local artist and sculptor J. Christopher White. Whatever Garrett tried, he seemed to be good at—although his humility often prevented him from recognizing just how talented and capable he truly was.

Outside of work and school, Garrett enjoyed working out and weightlifting, reading, playing Xbox with family and friends, listening to all kinds of music, trout fishing, being on a boat, and spending time outdoors. He loved new athletic shoes and really good food—especially sushi and pho. He considered himself to be quite a food critic and connoisseur.

Garrett loved the mountains. His family’s cabin near Breckenridge was one of his favorite places on earth. He also loved the ocean especially the beaches of Maui.

At the center of Garrett’s life was a faith in Jesus Christ that began when he was very young and grew profoundly during the hardest years of his life.

Garrett accepted Christ when he was five years old and was baptized at Champion Forest Baptist Church in Houston at age eight. He grew up attending church, Sunday school, and youth groups and was surrounded by Christian family and friends. The foundation of God’s Word that was planted in Garrett as a child became increasingly important to him as he grew into adulthood.

Garrett’s faith deepened through difficult seasons of both mental and physical trials. Rather than allowing those struggles to separate him from God, Garrett increasingly turned toward Christ.

On August 8, 2025, Garrett was diagnosed with Stage IV Fibrolamellar Carcinoma, an extremely rare form of liver cancer. Before learning that he had cancer, Garrett had prayed that God would make him strong, brave, and courageous.

God gave Garrett the opportunity to become all three.

Through circumstances that would have overwhelmed many people, Garrett demonstrated extraordinary courage. His faith gave him a peace that was unmistakable and, at times, difficult for those around him to comprehend.

He wasn’t afraid to die because he knew where his hope rested and where his eternity would be—with Jesus Christ.

When Garrett learned how serious his illness was, his concern wasn’t primarily for himself. He worried about his Momma, Dad and sisters and how they would endure what lay ahead.

Even while suffering, Garrett remained Garrett. He joked. He loved. He showed kindness. He treated the nurses, administrative staff, doctors, and countless others who crossed his path with humor, gratitude, kindness, and respect. In doing so, he quietly shared God’s love with people everywhere he went.

During Garrett’s final year, the community of St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Church in Loveland CO became especially meaningful to him and his family. Father Nicholas, Kevin and Megan, Ben, Aidan and the entire St. Spyridon church family surrounded Garrett with prayer, friendship, guidance, and love. Their presence became an important part of Garrett’s spiritual journey as his faith continued to deepen.

Two passages of Scripture held special meaning for Garrett:

“Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”

Matthew 11:28

And from Proverbs 19:21-23, “Many are the plans, in the mind of a man but is the purpose of the Lord that will stand. What is desired in a man is the steadfast love, and a poor man is better than a liar. The fear of the Lord leads to life, and whoever has it rests satisfied; he will not be visited by harm.”

This was God’s reminder that while people make many plans, ultimately it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails.

Garrett’s life was far too short, but his impact cannot be measured simply by the number of years he was given.

His faith, strength, humor, kindness, and love brought hope to his family, friends, caregivers, and even people around the world who never had the privilege of meeting him. Through Garrett’s illness, his family’s faith grew stronger. They drew closer to one another and closer to God. His life changed theirs forever.

Garrett’s family hopes that those who knew his story will remember more than the courageous young man who fought a rare cancer. They hope people remember the life he led of faith, love, kindness, loyalty, humor and the Christian man who faced death without fear because he knew Jesus Christ.

Garrett would want those he leaves behind to carry Christ’s love to the people God places in their lives. His family prays that his story will encourage others to seek God, trust Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Savior, love one another more deeply, and never take for granted the time God gives us together.

Our son taught us to love deeper and to laugh longer.

Garrett is survived by his parents, Gary Lee Hemeyer and Christina Marie Medrano-Hemeyer; his sister Kamran Nicole Hemeyer-Martin and her husband, Tate Martin; his niece, Tatum Martin; his nephew, Knox Martin; his youngest sister, Juliet Mackenzie Hemeyer; his maternal grandparents, Arturo and Clara Irene Rodriguez and Robert and Cherry Medrano; and many beloved cousins, extended family members, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Roy Lee Hemeyer and Kathryn Jane Hemeyer.

The Hemeyer family extends its heartfelt gratitude to everyone who cared for, prayed for, encouraged, and loved Garrett and our family throughout his illness. They are especially grateful to Tom Stockwell and Dr. Paul Kent and the FibroFighters Foundation, who gave the family hope and support from the very beginning; Dr. Hall and the entire Banner MD Anderson Cancer team; the many healthcare professionals who cared for Garrett; and the St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Church family who walked alongside him and his family in faith.

Colorado Wake and Funeral Services:

A wake for Garrett will be held at St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Church at 807 W 29th St, Loveland, CO 80538, at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, September 18, 2026, with a light reception to follow.

Garrett’s funeral service will be held at St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Church at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 19, 2026, with a reception to follow.

Texas Memorial and Burial Services:

A second memorial service celebrating Garrett’s life will be held in the Houston area, with a Celebration of Life service at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, September 25, 2026 at Second Baptist Church - Cypress at 29900 Hwy 290, Cypress, TX 77433 with reception to follow.

He will be laid to rest at Klein Memorial Park in Magnolia TX by St Anthony The Great Orthodox Church at a private family service.

Flowers are welcome at both the Colorado and Texas services.

Garrett fought the good fight. He finished his race. He kept the faith.

And although those who love him grieve deeply because they will miss his voice, his wit, his smile, his hugs, and simply having him beside them, they do not grieve without hope.

Garrett knew where he was going.

He fell asleep in the Lord and went home to be with Jesus.
