Garrett Frank Chapman stood sinless before his God on Monday, May 1, 2023. A celebration of Gary's life will be held at Klein's Funeral Home chapel Thursday, May 11, at 10am.

Gary is survived by his loving wife, Judy and his two children, Laurie (Carl) and Jim, four grandchildren, Sarah (Lucas), Ryan, Cale (Karoline) and Kendall (Tyler), and one great-grandchild, Asher.

Gary was raised in Lake City, Iowa, with an older brother Dan and a younger sister Corda. Gary excelled in sports. He lettered in every sport all four years of high school. The only letter he didn't get was football his freshman year. His mom didn't want him to hurt a finger and not be able to play the piano.

Having never been to Texas before, Gary found his way to Baylor University. While at Baylor, Gary played basketball. During a game, a beautiful girl in the stands caught his eye. Thus began his relationship with Judy and their 66 years of marriage. Upon graduation, he was sworn into the Air Force by President Eisenhower. Upon completing pilot training, he received his wings, realizing his lifelong dream to fly.

Eventually settling in the Houston area, Gary worked for Getty Oil Company. At Getty, he was given the opportunity to work with computers in their infancy. Gary remained in the computer field, eventually retiring from Texaco.

In 1971, an interest in horses prompted a move to Tomball. Gary's joy was his family. One of his favorite activities was taking everyone out boating on Lake Conroe. In retirement, Gary and Judy loved to travel with their RV or stay closer to home antiquing. Gary loved working with his hands. He learned to cane, stain glass, and do basket weaving and woodworking. He often gave the things he made as gifts to family and friends. He also dedicated much of his retirement to serving the local community by volunteering at the hospital. Gary loved the Lord and cherished the fellowship with his dear friends. Gary was humble and kind, always concerned for others. He had a great sense of humor. A man of few words, Gary lived his life abundantly and set an example to us all of what it means to love God, family, and life.
