Frank M. O'Brien

1926-2021

Frank M. O'Brien , 94, passed away on Friday, June 25 th , 2021 in San Antonio, Texas. He was born on July 4th, 1926 in St. Paul, Kansas to Frank and Mary O'Brien, the 4 th of eight children.  Frank was raised in Tulsa, Oklahoma and after graduating from Marquette High School he served in the Army and was stationed in the Pacific until the end of World War II. Upon his return he attended the University of Tulsa where he earned his Bachelor's degree in Physics and then began a long and successful career with Schlumberger Well Services.   While working in Cushing, Oklahoma he met and married Doris Kendall of Guthrie, Oklahoma on September 6 th , 1958 and they were married 62 years until Doris' death earlier this year.  During this time their family lived in many cities throughout the country but eventually settled in Houston, Texas in 1978. He was a founding member of St. Ignatius Loyola Catholic Church and served as hospitality captain for 20 years.  Frank loved to play golf and was a long-time member of Champions Golf Club. He was a loving and dedicated husband, father and grandfather and his happiest times were spent with his wife and family.

He is survived by his son David and wife, Tami of Spring, Texas and their children, Megan (Konrad Kaltenbach), Kristin, Lauren, Jonathan and Kathryn; daughters Linda Schmeltekopf and husband, Mark of San Antonio, Texas; Karen O'Brien and husband, Dave Rusin of Austin, Texas and her children Patrick and Miles; Kelly Foreman and husband, Doug of Wilmington, NC and their children, Katie and Emily. He is also survived by his oldest sister Katie Roberts of Dallas, Texas who "won the race".

Visitation will be from 5 pm until 8 pm and Rosary will be held at 7 pm Friday, July 2 nd , at Klein Funeral Home – Champions, 16131 Champion Forest Dr., Klein, Texas 77379.  A Catholic Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am on Saturday, July 3rd, 2021 at St. Ignatius Loyola Catholic Church, 7810 Cypresswood Drive, Spring, Texas 77379. Interment will take place at Klein Memorial Park, 9714 FM 2920, Tomball, Texas 77375. In lieu of flowers a donation may be made to St. Vincent de Paul - 2403 Holcombe Blvd, TX 77021 - www.svdphouston.org
