Obituary

Francis Wayne Weir, born on February 5, 1935 in Avalon, PA, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, June 27, 2020.

Frank (as he preferred to be called) grew up in a small rural community outside of Pittsburgh. He graduated in 1957 from the University of Pittsburgh with a Bachelor of Science degree in Zoology.  From 1958-1962, he served in the U.S. Army as a Biological Chemist at Edgewood Arsenal in Maryland.  He then achieved a Master of Science degree in Pharmacology, and Ph.D. in Toxicology and Comparative Pharmacology from the University of California Medical Center, San Francisco, CA in 1967 and 1968, respectively.

Frank had an extensive career in the fields of toxicology and industrial hygiene. He worked for The Hine Laboratories in San Francisco from 1962-1969; as a Professor of Toxicology in the College of Medicine, Ohio State University from 1969-1973;  Research Toxicologist for General Motors Corporation from 1973-1976; Professor of Toxicology at The University of Texas School of Public Health during 1976-1983; Director of Environmental Safety for the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston from 1982-1988; and Adjunct Professor at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston from 1988-1991. After leaving the university setting, Frank worked full-time as an independent consultant until his hospitalization in 2020.

Frank loved his work, and when he was not actively working, he traveled to different parts of the world.  Although he had an extensive education, years of work experiences and adventures in travel, he called himself a "simple country boy".  All who knew Frank understood that he was a "Patriot" through and through.  He will be greatly missed, but remembered well.

He is survived by his sons, Craig Michael Weir Bigler of Shelocta, PA, and Wayne Jordan Weir Sistrunk of Chicago, IL. and four grandchildren.

He is also survived by several nieces, nephews and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, George Earl Weir and Helen Emily Hubbard Weir; siblings, Marion Watson, Dorothy Kelly, Howard Weir and John Weir; and daughter, Alissa E. Weir.

A private funeral service will take place at Klein Funeral Home on Champion Forest Drive, Klein, TX on Saturday, July 11 at 10am. Masks will be required. Funeral and burial services will be limited to family, and a gathering at Willie's Grill & Icehouse, 19770 TX-249, Houston, TX will follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children – Galveston.
