Fern Dickerson Baggett, 83, of Hockley, Texas, passed away peacefully at her home on June 28, 2025.
She was born on August 7, 1941, in Jasper, Texas, to J.J. and Kitty Dickerson. After graduating from Jasper High School in 1959, Fern moved to Houston, where she worked as a secretary for a local insurance company. It was there she met and later married Lt. Fred Baggett of Montgomery, Alabama, on March 29, 1964, before he deployed to Vietnam.
During their 50 years of marriage, Fern and Fred lived in various states and countries while raising their children, Fred Jr. and Kathy. In 1984, following Fred's retirement from the military, the family returned to Texas.
Fern's greatest joy in life was her family. She loved being outdoors, especially fishing and playing golf with Fred. A devoted and supportive mother, she coached her children's baseball and softball teams and was a talented seamstress who created award-winning costumes for her daughter. She also found deep fulfillment in gardening and the quiet beauty of nature.
Fern is survived by her daughter, Kathy Elder (Leo) of Springfield, Oregon; her daughter-in-law, Tammy Baggett of Prairie View, Texas; four beloved grandchildren: Emery, Mattie, Eli, and Charlie; and her brother, Jesse Dickerson (Joyce) of Jasper, Texas.
