Everald Eddystone Fennell, Age 69, passed away peacefully in Houston, TX on September 18, 2025 at 8:40am.

He was born on March 27, 1956 in Saint James, Jamaica, to father Mr. Eustace Fennell and mother Miss Isola Beckford. He spent his younger childhood in Saint James with his uncle and father before moving to Kingston to spend his adolescent years with his mother and brothers. He was a strong-willed and determined child, but also very self-sufficient. He learned how to cook under the direction of his mother, with his favorite dish being ackee and saltfish.

From primary school to high school, Everald was always known to be very intelligent and received honors and high grades at every level of his education. He went to Kingston Technical High School from 1970 to 1974, where he was a sergeant major in the cadet program. He then went to the College of Arts, Science, and Technology (later renamed Utech) for approximately 3 years before getting the opportunity to further his education in the United States. He received his Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from New York City College. And while pursuing his degree, Everald would travel back and forth to Jamaica to visit his young son Howard and his future wife Carol.

Everald was a fierce lover and avid player of football from the time he was a youth. After school and on most weekends, he would go to Raetown off Paradise Street to play with his friends and the likes of the legendary Bob Marley, Jacob Miller, and Allan "Skill" Cole. He played all positions, from forward to wing to defender, and was so skilled that he played with the amateur pro Nascimento football club. He was also known to coach and mentor the local kids in the neighborhood. He was even given a plaque by the football club for his work with the youth program.

In the mid-1970s Everald adopted the Rastafarian culture. Around 1979 he began growing his dreads and embracing the life of a "rasta", much to the disapproval of many. However, he was true to himself and followed his heart. In the early eighties he moved from New York to Houston, Texas where he established himself as one of the first Jamaicans from Raetown in the city. After planting his feet solidly in Texas, he returned to Jamaica in 1982 to marry Carol and together they permanently migrated to Texas. Everald's entrepreneurial spirit motivated him to open a Jamaican restaurant in Houston named Imperial West Indian Restaurant. The establishment was successfully operated by him, with Carol as the head chef.

During this time, Everald and Carol also began to grow their family, which ultimately led them to having five children together. Over the years, Everald worked hard to support his family as a machinist while also continuing his passion for football by playing for the Caricargo Strikers in Houston. Aside from his love of sports, he also had a deep love for music. Not only was he very skilled on the guitar, piano, and harmonica, but he even wrote and produced his own records. Over the course of his life, his other hobbies included international travel, fishing, horse racing, and family trips to the casino.

Everald ultimately retired after working for over 40 years. In his later years, he enjoyed simple pleasures such as having his kids and grandkids come over, driving around in his Mercedes that he gifted himself after retirement, and sitting outside in his favorite chair on the porch. This is the life and fondest memories of Everald that we will remember and cherish forever.

Everald was preceded in death by his parents, but he is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Carol; his six children, Howard, Kamilah, Khadijah, Maisha, Shani, and Sabriyyah; as well as his grandchildren, Amaya, Kieran, Avarie, Keagan, Omari, Kensli, and Maverick. He is also survived by his siblings Neville, Claudia, Leon, Barrington, Antonio, and a host of other family members and friends.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, October 11, at Klein Funeral Home - CyFair Northwest, 9719 Wortham Boulevard, Houston, TX 77065. Friends are welcome to visit with the family beginning at 1 p.m. Following the service, a committal service will take place at Klein Memorial Park in Cypress.
