Evelyn Maydell (Woodard) Wilkinson
Went to be with our Heavenly Father on 3/16/2025. She was born 01/08/1934 (91) in Houston, Tx as the second of five children to Louis and Mavourneen Woodard. The Woodard's owned a Feed Store on Jensen Drive in Houston near the 610 loop. The feed store generated many happy memories while she and her siblings worked there after school. They were members of Curry Road Baptist church where Maydell followed her Lord and Savior in Baptism. Maydell graduated from Jeff Davis High School and attended a few semesters at Sam Houston State University, where her brother Louis played football. Her college roommate was Dorothy Gordon (Woodard) who shortly thereafter married Louis Woodard. Then she met the man of her dreams, Donald and married in 1954. When Donald was diagnosed with Poliomyelitis in 1959, she became his "Angel on Earth" by caring for his health and financially supporting the family. Maydell worked as a professional secretary in the oil industry for over 30 years by the time she retired from Shell Oil Company in 1991 at age 57.
In her next phase of life she was extremely active in the community with church, hospital, and Eastern Star. She was a member of Champions Forest Baptist Church at the main location for 25 years. She was highly involved in the Current Mission Committee for years, a member of the Empowered class, and participated in Grief Share among many other events. She volunteered as part of the Northwest Medical Center Auxiliary with over 7000 hours of community service. Don and Maydell both served as the Masonic community of Klein lodge #1414. Maydell became a member of the Grand Chapter of Texas Order of the Eastern Star from 1998 -2012. Maydell was truly loved by family and friends and most devoted to her husband of 56 years Donald Wilkinson who died in 2009.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Mavourneen Woodard, her sister Billie Kittinger, brothers Louis and James Woodard, and her beloved husband Donald Neil Wilkinson.
She is survived by only one sibling, Dale Woodard and wife Wynell, children: her daughter Brenda Booth, her son David Neil Wilkinson and wife Brandy as well as numerous nephews and nieces. Her grandchildren include Melissa Ross and husband Kevin, Leslie Booth and husband Martin Gelbach, Jenny Janda and husband Travis; Garret and Mitchell Wilkinson, Crystal Demmon, and husband Daniel. Great grandchildren include Jacob, Sara, Samuel, and Caleb Ross, Noah Gelbach, Colton, Connor Riddle, Waylon Janda and Harper Demmon.
