1924 – 2020

Together Again

Evelyn died September 6, 2020 at the age of 95.  She was born 12-13-1924 to Alfred H Johnson Jr and Edna Francis Johnson in Washington, DC and spent her high school years in Cincinnati, OH.  There, she met and married Alex M Wendt during WWII.  They were married for 74 years before Alex passed in December 2018.   They had 2 daughters born in Cincinnati, Kathie and Sheri and then moved to Houston where they had twin boys, Jim and Gary and another daughter Christine.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her sister Harriet Waddey and brothers Alfred H Johnson III and Paul L Johnson, brother-in-law Dick Waddey, sisters-in-law Ann Johnson and Patsy Johnson.  She was also preceded by her son-in-law Sonny Enloe and nephew Ralph Waddey.

Along with the five children and spouses Don Beecher and Debbi Wendt, Alex and Evelyn leave 10 grandchildren – Gina (Mark), Lisa (Tracy), Patrick (Vicki), Kelley, Ryan (Mandy), Jeremy (Devin), Ashley (Kenneth), Shawn (Leah), Joel and Avery.  12 Great-Grandchildren – Michael (Dava), Christopher, Samantha, Erin, Kaleigh, Kole, Owen, Chase, Sawyer, Rush, Zoey and Zak. 1 Great-Great-Grandson – Zane.  There are too many nieces and nephews to list but she loved them all.

Evelyn was mostly a stay at home Mom but did work at different times at a clothing store, hardware store and Memorial High School in the office.  She was also a longtime member of the HESS Ladies Auxiliary. She was an excellent seamstress and made most of our clothes including several wedding dresses and several bridesmaid dresses.  Gardening was a passion with her.  There were no weeds that stood a chance in her gardens.  She continued to garden into her 90s; loved to get her hands dirty.  Ev was always wanting to help others.  She was driving "older friends" to the store or doctor's appointments when she was in her mid 80's.  Everyone that ever met her always commented on her beautiful, infectious smile. She loved her church, St. Ignacius of Loyola and missed it very much when she moved to Sugar Land.  A mass will be held at St. Ignacius of Loyola on Cypresswood Dr at 11 am on Saturday October 24 ^th .  Burial will take place at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery.  Restrictions may apply as far as the number of people that may attend the burial.

We will all miss her as much as we still miss our Dad.  There are too many friends to list here but you know you were all very special to her.  Also a special thank you to Star of Texas Hospice and "nurse Gina" and the people at Colonial Oaks where she was cared for in the last 8-1/2 months of her life; especially Pam Kelly.
