It is with great sadness that I am sharing the passing of Evelyn Ann Tiggeloven of Spring, TX. She died peacefully surrounded by family on Monday May 5, 2025, at the age of 91 years old. Evelyn was a beloved mother and grandmother and will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Evelyn was born in New York City, NY on May 12, 1933, to Arthur and Amelia Joerger. Evelyn grew up in The Bronx, NY and attended Washington Irving High School in Manhattan, NY. As a young adult she worked for AT&T in New York City before traveling to Europe and deciding to settle in Amsterdam, The Netherlands and working for Time Life. There she met the love of her life, Johannes "Joop" Tiggeloven. They married in 1966 and resided in Amsterdam. When their son, Mark, was born she became a stay-at-home mom. In the late 1970s she started training to be a yoga teacher and traveled to India to study for a few months. She used her training to teach yoga to all ages including at risk youth. In 1988 her husband's job transferred the family to Houston, TX. While in Houston, Evelyn continued to teach yoga and volunteered at MD Anderson Cancer Center. After surviving colon cancer in 1986 it was important to her to help support families dealing with cancer. In 1997, her husband retired, and the couple moved back to Amsterdam to the apartment they bought in 1966. That is where she resided until she moved to Spring, TX in 2021 to be close to her son and family.
Evelyn loved to travel the world. She traveled extensively in Europe, North America, Aisa, and The Middle East. She also enjoyed Tai Chi, billiards, Mahjong, Chinese calligraphy, reading, cooking, fashion, gardening, and learning about nutrition and health. She stayed active and tried to learn new things her entire life.
Evelyn is survived by her son Mark (Rachel) Tiggeloven, granddaughter Claire Tiggeloven, brother Arthur (Susan) Joerger, many beloved nieces and nephews, and extended family of Joop in The Netherlands. Evelyn is predeceased by her husband Johannes "Joop" Tiggeloven in 2008 and by her parents Arthur and Amelia Joerger.
Evelyn lived a long and fulfilling life, devoted to her family and community. Her legacy will continue through the love and memories she leaves behind. In memory of Evelyn Tiggeloven, contributions may be made to MD Anderson Cancer Center, P.O. Box 4486, Houton, TX, 77210-4486 or MDAnderson.org/Gifts , or a charity of choice in lieu of flowers.
