Our beloved Mother, MeeMaw, Sister and Friend, Evelyn Marie Nolen of Waller, went home to be with the Lord on December 1, 2020. She was 88. Evelyn was born in Rayville, LA. to Versey and Myrtle Smith, the second of eight children. Theirs was a close-knit family and she loved to tell stories about growing up on the farm. As a young child, Evelyn spent her time studying God's word and attending church with her family. She was especially close to her precious mother.  In retirement she and husband Harvey loved traveling, crossing the country in their camper, where they lived for many years.

A sweet, warm woman who never met a stranger, Evelyn was unapologetically friendly. Even the waiters of her favorite Mexican restaurant knew her name and would shower her with attention. When she left a gathering someone would always remind her to behave. With a mischievous twinkle in her eye, she would always reply, "I'll be careful."

Evelyn was the heart and soul of her family. We will cherish memories of family dinners and her delicious southern cooking. Wonderfully devoted to her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, she will forever be remembered for her quick witted sense of humor, her hugs and kisses, generous smile and infectious laugh. She was a blessing to many and we are forever grateful for her long life and the time we were able to spend with her. She was truly our Queen and has at last gained her heavenly crown.

Evelyn was escorted into Heaven by her parents, the love of her life, Harvey Nolen, her sisters Hazel Tanner, Maxine Bell and Shirley Tubbe and brother, Sammy Smith. She is survived by her children: Billie Schricker, James Prine (Susie), Geri Lakey, Jean Dyess (Paul), Don Prine, Peggy Prine and step-daughter, Sandra Gribble. She is also survived by her brothers John Elmore "Buddy" Smith, Henry Smith (Cindy), sister Julie Egnatuk (Tony) and her beloved cat Ms. Kitty. Her numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren promise to continue her legacy of kindness, southern charm and hospitality.
