Evelyn Elaine Lieder, 73, of Crockett, Texas, passed away on Tuesday, June 27, 2023. She was born on August 15, 1949, in Houston, Texas, to Buckner H. Jones and Joyce Elaine Jones.
Elaine graduated from Spring Branch High School in Houston and attended both Houston Baptist College and Durham Business College before marrying the love of her life in June of 1971. She had a passion for music, played the viola in several orchestras - including the Houston Youth Symphony - and came in second place in a national tryout for the Julliard School of Performing Arts and Conservatory in New York.
Elaine, a beloved pastor's wife, began serving in deaf ministry in Fort Wayne, Indiana, in 1984 and in Houston, Texas, beginning in 1996. She and her husband retired from deaf ministry in 2021 and moved to Crockett to enjoy their golden years.
Her wit and bubbly personality made her the center of conversations at any gatherings. We miss her joyful presence every day.
She is survived by her husband, Lawrence Lieder of Crockett; son, Matthew Lieder and wife Shelly of Cypress, TX; daughter, Heather Johnson and husband Jay of Brenham, TX; daughter, Amber Lieder of Magnolia, TX; and 15 grandchildren.
Friends are invited to visit with the family between 9 a.m. and 10 a.m. on Thursday, July 6, at St. John Lutheran Church, 15235 Spring Cypress Rd., Cypress, TX 77429. A celebration of her life will begin at 10 a.m. A graveside committal service will take place at Memorial Oaks Cemetery in Houston followed by a reception back at St. John Lutheran Church.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital , the Lawrence and Mildred Lieder Endowment for Organ Maintenance at Concordia Theological Seminary , or St. John Lutheran Church .
