Oney Evelyn Jones passed peacefully into the arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on March 15, 2023 in Spring, TX. Evelyn, known as "Bootsie" to her family and early friends was born in Houston, TX on February 18, 1931 to Thomas Jefferson and Agnes Anderson Bury, and was the youngest of six siblings.

At age 16 she married her childhood sweetheart, Dexter Jones, and followed and supported him during his engineering studies at the University of Houston and the Agriculture and Mechanical College of Texas (now Texas A&M) where he was in the Corps of Cadets.  The young couple then lived at several stateside postings during Dexter's service as an Army Corps Engineer, where they made lifelong friends and enjoyed exploring the western US.

Evelyn had many natural talents and a servant's heart.  She supported her family and her service to others by working in retail, driving a school bus along with her band of close lady  friends for Cy Fair ISD, serving as a Scout den mother, graduating nursing school as an LVN and later serving in a private physician practice along with best friend and sidekick Liz Warren.  She exhibited a great talent as an artist, and loved to create beautiful landscape and still-life works for friends and family.  She had an innate talent for gardening and was a Master Gardener before there was such a formal program, and was later certified and awarded as such.  As a true southern cook, she had few peers, and actively traded recipes with friends and family. As a talented pianist she enjoyed playing at home on her Steinway baby grand and at church for Sunday School and various worship gatherings.  In retirement her service continued as an active volunteer in the social and religious ministries at the Village at Gleannloch Farms retirement community.

In addition to her parents, Evelyn is preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Dexter Jones; brothers George, Emmett, and Donald Henry; and sisters Nellie Smith and Agnes Kowis. She is survived by her children, Dan and Karen Jones of Huntsville, Dawn and Tom Oliphant of Houston; her grandchildren, David Oliphant of Lewisville, Shannon Oliphant and Bernard Parker of Houston, Ethan Jones of El Segundo, CA, Brandi Nelson of Grapevine, Lyndsay and Joel Starkey of Huntsville; and great-grandchildren Joon Nelson of Grapevine, Ruby and Polly Starkey of Huntsville, Alyana and Elijah Raglin, and Barrett Parker of Houston; as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews, and their descendants.

Her greatest assets were her love, compassion, and service in living a life of 92 years as an example of a Christian wife, matriarch, friend, and inspiration to all.  A memorial service for Evelyn will be held on Monday, March 20 at Klein Funeral Home at 16131 Champion Forest Drive in Spring. Visitation will be at 1:00 PM followed by the service at 2:00 PM.
