Obituary

Evelyn Ridinger Hughes Kirk

1926 – 2017

Evelyn Ridinger Hughes Kirk was born in Greensburg, Pennsylvania, on August 28, 1926, and passed away the morning of July 13, 2017.  She was the daughter of James and Adda Hughes, and one of six children.  Evelyn grew up in western Pennsylvania, attending Greensburg High School, and later West Chester State College.  She married her high school sweetheart and love of her life, Clyde V. Kirk II, on September 1, 1947, in New Orleans, Louisiana.  Clyde's career took them from New Orleans to Dallas to Pittsburgh to South Florida and in 1987 they made their final move to Houston to be closer to family.
Before beginning their family, Evelyn worked at J.C. Penney in New Orleans, and remained loyal to this company all of her life.  In early 1949, Clyde and Evelyn welcomed their first child, Marc, followed by Clyde, Kathy, and Paul.  Evelyn was a devoted and loving mother, and her family always came before anything else.  She was an immaculate homemaker, an excellent cook, and loved baking homemade breads, cookies, cakes, and pies for her family.

Evelyn loved animals, especially dogs, and raised Cocker Spaniels for awhile.  Up until recent years, there was always a dog or two in her home.  She was an avid lover of nature and enjoyed sitting on her patio drinking coffee while watching the birds come to the many feeders in her backyard.  Her other hobbies included round dancing, ballroom dancing, and traveling.  Evelyn and Clyde traveled this country extensively, and especially loved visiting the national parks.  They also had the opportunity to visit many parts of the world including Russia, Europe, Tahiti, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, and Scotland.
Evelyn is predeceased by her husband of 67 years, Clyde V. Kirk II (1926-2014), and her son Marc Edward Kirk (1949-1981).  She is survived by her children, Clyde V. Kirk, III (Joanne) of Cypress, Texas, Kathryn Kirk Jamali (Nasser) of Chamblee, Georgia, and Paul David Kirk (Diane) of Tampa, Florida; five grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.  She was excited to be welcoming her first great-grandchild next month.
The family would like to thank the many people who helped care for Evelyn during the last four years, including the staff and caregivers of The Solana Vintage Park, Right at Home in Home Care Assistance, and At Your Side Home Care.  We also sincerely thank the staff of Grace Hospice for their love, care, and compassion during Evelyn's final illness.
In lieu of customary remembrances, please consider a donation to any animal rescue organization of your choice.
