Obituary

Evelyn Hoekstra, born on December 15th, 1936, during the Great Depression in Randolph, Wisconsin to the late Frank De Vries and Anna Marie Streekstra De Vries;  passed away on February 12th, 2025 to be with her husband who passed away July 17, 2021

In 1959 Evelyn received a Bachelor of Arts in Education from Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Michigan. In June of 1961, Evelyn met and married Stanley Hoekstra, soon after they would move to Chicago. After Stan graduated from DeVry Technical College they relocated to Maryland, where they welcomed their first son, Anthony. The family then moved to Connecticut, where their second son, Chuck, was born. By 1972 they returned to Wisconsin, settling just outside of Milwaukee. Finally, in 1981, the family made their last move to Houston, Texas. Evelyn worked and retired as a special education teacher from the Klein school district.

Evelyn was known to be an avid baker, best known for her homemade pie crusts. She loved to garden and dote on her kitty cats. Her close friends knew of her Delftware and pottery collection, which eventually grew to be one of the largest known private collections in Texas. Evelyn was known as a loving yet tough woman by those who knew her.

She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of knowing her.  Evelyn is survived by her sons Anthony and Chuck, her daughter in law Jessica and five grandchildren, Lauren, Jasmine, Jacob, Emilie and Jillian.
