Evelyn Jeanette (Haire) Cicero, 101 years old of Tomball passed away August 11, 2018. She was born January 23, 1917 in Memphis, Tennessee to Dee Vernon and Euvar Maybelle Greer Haire.

In the early 1940's, Evelyn was the founder of the first all girl western band named "The Swingtime Cowgirls", where she was star singer and yodler. While appearing on W.L.S. National Barn Dance, a manager of an off Broadway group formed a USO Show with Evelyn and her band, as well as other well known talent. This USO Show entertained all branches of the armed forces throughout the U.S.A. during World War II. After the show ended, she went with the Renfro Valley Opera, playing guitar, singing and doing comedy. While performing their shows at RVO Theater in Detriot, Ida Leonard along with her 17 piece orchestra engaged her to play bass and sing with their band. After two weeks of rehearsing in Chicago, they traveled throughout the United States, following Big Bands such as Tommy Dorsey. When this band disbanded, she formed a combo and was appearing at the Done Stables in Chicago, where she met and married her late husband Paul. After their marriage, her love for music and entertainment ceased. While they were residing in California, she worked with the Louie Primio B and with a trio for Bud Abbot on one of his campaigns. In Houston, she played guitar and sang with The Junior Band Forum of Houston, volunteered for the YMCA and with the Cornbelt Symphony.

Evelyn was and member of the Eastern Star #1141 Chapter and was a lifetime member of the Federation of Professional Musicians Local 47 of California.

She loved her husband and family very much. Her husband Paul who preceded her in death along with her brothers Charles E. Haire and Carl B. Haire. She is survived by her son Paul S. Cicero and his wife Karen, daughter Peggie Ann (Snell) Ansel, grandchildren Alex Cicero, Kelli Cicero, Fritz Ansel and Hans Ansel, four great-grandchilden and numerous great great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 10am Wednesday, August 15, 2018 in the Klein Funeral Home Chapel in Tomball, Texas, with visitation 1 hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at 1pm at Houston National Cemetery.
