Obituary

Eugene Earl "Gene" Strohbeck, age 88, died January 14, 2018 at the Silverado Vintage Preserve Memory Care Community in Houston, Texas.  Born January 7, 1930 in Wood River, Illinois, he was the only child of Earl and Mildred Smith Strohbeck.  He grew up in Alton, Illinois and graduated from Alton High School.  After working briefly at a steel mill he realized it might be preferable to get a college degree and so attended the Missouri School of Mines in Rolla where he earned a degree in Civil Engineering graduating first in his class.  After graduation he married his high school sweetheart the former Norma Ann Moore on June 2, 1953 in Alton and went to work for Shell Oil Company.  At Shell, he designed off-shore oil platforms, participating in numerous depth milestones throughout his career.  His career started in Houston where his two children were born, then moved to New Orleans for 20 years before moving back to Houston again in 1978.  He retired in 1988.

Gene is survived by daughter Janet and her husband Eugene Kearney of Houston, their daughter Amanda and her husband Nick Swift of Austin, son Mark of Houston, and his sons Wade at home and Kyle in Dallas.  In addition to his parents, Gene was preceded in death by his wife Norma in 2008 and daughter-in-law Darlene in 2015.

Per his arrangements his body is to be cremated and his urn placed in a niche next to his wife's at Klein Memorial Park, Farm to Market 2920, Tomball, Texas.  Services will be private.
