Rev. Erwin Albert Metz, Sr. passed away on December 18, 2019, in Spring, Texas, at the age of 94 years, 5 months and 6 days. He was born in St. Joseph, Michigan, on July 12, 1925, to Carl T. Metz and Martha S. (Buchholz) Metz. He was baptized on the same date as his birth and was confirmed on June 11, 1939. His Bible verse was 1 Corinthians 3:16.

He married Eunice Lillian Reimnitz of St. Louis, Missouri on August 20, 1950.  This union of 69 years was blessed with 5 children: Timothy (deceased), Erwin Albert, Jr. (Melinda), Debra Lester (Keith), Kathy Bodin (Daniel) and Cynthia Schriber (Andrew); 18 grandchildren (two deceased); and three great-grandchildren.

Rev. Metz was educated at Concordia Academy & College in Fort Wayne, Indiana (1939-1945), graduated from Concordia Seminary in St. Louis, Missouri (1950), and earned a master's degree in education from Concordia Teachers College in River Forest, Illinois (1973).

Rev. Metz served the Texas District LCMS from 1950-1968 at the following congregations:

* Trinity Lutheran Church-Uvalde and St. Paul Lutheran Church-La Pryor (1950-1954)

* Immanuel Lutheran Church-Harrold (1954-1960)

* St. Paul Lutheran Church-Harlingen (1960-1964)

* Zion Lutheran Church-Tomball and Salem Lutheran Church-Tomball as Vacancy Pastor (1964-1968)

Rev. Metz followed his calling to be an educator and served as Guidance Counselor and teacher of Latin and Religion courses at Racine Lutheran High School in Racine, Wisconsin (1968-1985).

He returned to Texas in 1985 and served at the following congregations:

* St. Timothy Lutheran Church-Tomball as Interim Pastor (1985-1986)

* Good Samaritan Home-Cypress as Chaplain (1988-1990)

* Bethany Lutheran Church-Houston as Interim Pastor (1992-1994)

* Fishers of Men Lutheran Church-Port Isabel as Pastor in Residence (1998-2000)

* Trinity Lutheran Church-Klein as Visiting Pastor (2003-2013)
