Ernest Nolan Miles
November 26, 1931 – August 10, 2020
Ernest Nolan Miles, 88, of Apalachin, New York, Durham, North Carolina, and briefly in Cypress, Texas, passed away on August 10, 2020 of Covid-19 coupled with congestive heart failure in Katy, Texas.
Ernie was born in Chicago to Nolan and Clara Miles on November 26, 1931. He graduated from Macon High School. He married Betty Jane Fritz on September 9, 1953 in Rapid City, South Dakota. He attended Graceland College and graduated from the University of Missouri in Columbia, Missouri with a bachelor's in electrical engineering. He worked as an electrical engineer for IBM for 28 years. He was an Air Force veteran and served as a radio operator in the Korean war. For the last 45 years, he's been a member and president (for many years) of the Association of Saints Church Radio Amateurs (ASCRA) and held an 'extra class' call sign of W2UJL. Ernie was a former priesthood member of Community of Christ Church. He was a very active board member and counselor at Deer Park, the church's campground in New Hope, Pennsylvania. He retired a second time from Lowe's Home Improvement with 11 years of service.
Ernie is preceded in death by his father, Nolan, mother, Clara, and sister Nola.
Ernie is survived by his wife, Betty Miles and children, Mark Miles of Independence, Missouri, Dale Miles of Calgary, Canada, Neil Miles of Fuquay Varina, North Carolina, and Susan Lewis of Cypress, Texas and his grandchildren Holly Miles, Connor Miles, Andrew Miles, Elizabeth Miles, Baylie Miles, Nicholas Miles, Kelly Lewis, and Allison Lewis.
