Eric Brown was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer on July 31, 2017, shortly after returning home from a 56-mile backpacking trip at the Boy Scout Ranch in Philmont, New Mexico.  He loved hiking and being outdoors and was thrilled to be able to take all four of his sons on this special trek.

He served as a scoutmaster for many of his 51 years.  He enjoyed dutch oven cooking and recently became quite absorbed in smoking meats in his backyard.

The night he died, his family gathered around him and sang hymns.  Two of his sons had just returned home from serving in their Scout callings.  Unable to speak, Eric motioned that he wanted Jared to remove the Scout shirt he was wearing.  Then Eric insisted that the Scout shirt be put on him.  He was calm, peaceful, and prepared after he was dressed in his Scout shirt.

He gained a love for the Spanish language  after serving a two-year mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Argentina as a young man. He loved serving as bishop for the past five years, and he always found great joy in helping others.  It truly pained him to be physically unable to help with the Hurricane Harvey cleanup.

He was a devoted daddy.  He loved telling people that he had six children. He always had time to play with the kids in the backyard after work, or attend their many sports and music activities.  The kids ran to his side of the bed after a bad dream, and asked him to check if they had a fever.  He sang them bedtime songs each night, and was faithful in holding family prayer,  family scripture study, and family home evening.

He was a selfless husband of 29 years, and always encouraged and helped Lisa in her many messy projects.  He made many sacrifices so that she could be a stay at home mother.  Together they worshipped Jesus Christ in many temples around the globe.

Eric and Lisa moved to Houston in 1991 shortly after graduating from Brigham Young University.  He taught Spanish at Waller High School for three years, and then to provide for his growing family, he worked for Prime Equipment before entering the oil and gas manufacturing industry.  He enjoyed many years at Varco/Shaffer and then National Oilwell Varco before taking his current position at MHWirth.  His work took him to many different countries in the world, and he convinced his four youngest children and wife to spend a year of adventure in Kristiansand, Norway from 2010-2011.

He was blessed to be the second of seven children to Dick and Lannie Brown, and had a close relationship with his siblings.  He spent a joyful childhood in Provo, Utah and then Naperville, Illinois, and Mesa, Arizona.  He was a most devoted and ever hopeful BYU fan.  He loved playing sports, but never took himself or the game too seriously.  He adored being a grandpa to Lila and Millie, and thought his name of Faux Pa was absolutely perfect.  We are assured that he has much work to do on the other side of the veil, and that because of Jesus Christ we will be able to be with him again.
