Emery Eugene "Gene" Brown, age 86, went to be with the Lord on September 7, 2020. Gene was born  in the Missouri Bootheel town of Caruthersville, MO.  He grew up on his father's farm and learned to drive at age 8 by driving the truck down rows of cotton and soybeans. While in high school, Gene enjoyed farming with his dad and took summer jobs working at Kroger's and installing tv antenna poles. He graduated from the University of Missouri in 1956 with a Business Administration degree. Gene turned his love of math, figures, and solving problems into a financial career with Arkansas-Missouri Power Co., in Blytheville, AR.

Gene married the love of his life, Jane, on April 21, 1957. In 1961 Jane and Gene were blessed to adopt their son, Stacy.  They enjoyed living in Blytheville until 1979 when Gene was promoted to Vice President/Controller at Middle South Utilities (now Entergy Corporation) in New Orleans, Louisiana. The family fully embraced all things New Orleans like the cajun food, lifestyle and Mardi Gras.  Jane and Gene made friends with many couples in the Sunday School class at Aurora United Methodist church.  Many of whom would continue their friendship in retirement when they returned to Houston.

After Gene's retirement from Entergy, he began a consulting engagement in Overland Park, KS for several years.  At that time, he and Jane settled down for permanent retirement, or so they thought, until in 1995 when Stacy married Kellye Riley and provided them the "daughter" they had always wanted. Faced with the prospect of grandchildren, they moved to Houston to be with Kellye and Stacy.   In 1997 they were blessed with twin grandchildren, Emily and Scott. Gene and Jane took the job of grandparenting very seriously.  They never missed an event that their grandchildren were involved in, creating an everlasting bond between the four of them.

The things Gene loved were his church, his family, dessert, chargrilled oysters, playing golf with his son, baseball, and numbers.

Gene is survived by his wife, Jane, son, Scott Stacy Brown and wife Kellye, grandchildren, Emily Grace and Scott Stacy Brown Jr. He is also survived by his brother-in-law and lifelong best friend, Robert E. Goodin as well as many nieces and nephews, friends and extended family.
