Obituary

Elmer Wallace Lemm passed away on Saturday, April 8, 2017, at his home, just where he wanted to be for that occasion. He was born on December 29, 1918, in Spring, TX, to Urilda (Hargrave) and Ernest Lemm. He was Christened on April 13, 1919, and confirmed on March 5, 1934. Elmer was a lifelong resident of Spring, TX, except for his military service. He graduated from Spring School on May 26, 1939.
Elmer joined the U.S. Marines in January 1942 and served our great country during World War II. He was assigned to the Amphibious Tractor (AMTRAC) Battalion of the 2nd Marine Division and fought in many battles of the Pacific Islands including Guadalcanal. In late November 1943, during the battle on Tarawa, in the Gilbert Islands, Elmer was seriously wounded in his face, which included losing his right eye. He was evacuated for medical surgery and care; and after many weeks of recovery, Elmer was honorably discharged for medical reasons in April of 1944.
After returning to his home in Spring, TX, he resumed his courtship of his sweetheart, Victoria Hannah Theiss of Klein, TX. They married on November 4, 1944. Elmer worked in the oil fields for 49 years; it was the same company but changed names many times, and when he retired at the age of 75, the company was called Enron.
Elmer loved his wife Vicki and they shared their lives together for more than 62 years. They were very active in their Church, Immanuel United Church of Spring, TX. They had two children, four grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren. Elmer loved life and worked to make the lives of his family better. He was passionate about his God, his family, his job, his gardens, his cattle, and also baseball and dominoes. Elmer coached many young boys in the game of baseball. He helped to start the Spring-Klein Baseball association. And he was always ready for a domino game of 42 or 88's.
Vicki passed away in February, 2007. Elmer was also predeceased by his parents, two brothers, and one sister. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Cherie Lemm; and his daughter and son-in-law, Cheryl and David Graham. He is also survived by his four grandchildren: Michael Lemm, Tina (and husband Eddie) Pahl; Michelle (and husband Brian) Cresswell; and Jason (and wife Shelia) Graham; his great-grandchildren: Trevor and Connor Lemm; Taylor, Amber, and Rylan Pahl; Bailey, Jacob, and Madison Cresswell; and Nathanial Graham. Additionally, Elmer is survived by two step-grandchildren: Michael (and wife Crystal) Cluver and Georgie (and husband Adam) Mehia; and his very special friend, Frances Cheatham. Other survivors include three sisters-in-law, numerous nieces and nephews, and many friends from Immanuel Church, his working life, and social life.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, April 11, at Klein Funeral Home - Tomball, 1400 W. Main, Tomball, TX 77375. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, April 12,  in the funeral home chapel. Interment with military honors will be held at 12 p.m. on Wednesday, April 12, Earthman Resthaven Cemetery, 13102 North Freeway, Houston, TX 77060.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to the Elmer Lemm Memorial Fund at Immanuel United Church, 26501 Border St., Spring, TX 77373.
