Elmer "E.L." Louis Johnson Jr. died peacefully in the presence of his loving family on July 6th, 2023 at the age of 82.

E.L. was born on November 1, 1940 in New Orleans, Louisiana.  He was a graduate of Chalmette High School and attended Louisiana State University of New Orleans where he was active in the Newman Club.  He was enlisted in the Louisiana Air National Guard in which he proudly served.

He wedded the love of his life, Julia Glynn, in February of 1965.  They established their residence and began their family in Kenner, Louisiana.  In 1981 his profession in air freight logistics management moved them to Houston, Texas where they continued to flourish and build their lives.

His children will always remember him as a kind, patient, witty, and loving father who encouraged them and celebrated all of their successes.  His grandchildren were his biggest fans.  They will remember their PawPaw as someone who loved them dearly and who was interested and supportive of all of their activities and development.

E.L. was a practicing and devout Catholic his entire life.  He was recognized in the transportation industry as an expert and true professional and made friendships with contacts all over the world.  Obtaining his private pilot's license was one of his proudest achievements.  He had a great love for music, and could often light up an entire room by singing his rendition of "What a Wonderful World" or "Blueberry Hill".  His wife and he enjoyed many years playing tennis and made some wonderful friends on the courts.

E.L. is survived by his loving, supportive wife of 58 years, Julia Pauline Johnson, his son Glynn Johnson (Stephanie), his daughter Julie Jenkins (Mitchell), his grandchildren Laurette, Glynn Jr., Sydney, and Carter, as well as his nephews Bradley and Rollon Barrosse, and nieces Gaylon Liggon and Robin Oldenberg.  He was preceded in death by his father Elmer Louis Johnson Sr., his mother Ida Stella, his sister Bara Mae Barrosse, and his nephew Alan Barrosse.

The funeral is scheduled for 11:00 am, Friday, July 14th at Christ the Good Shepherd Catholic Church, 18511 Klein Church Rd. Spring, TX 77379.  A reception will follow at the social hall.  The family will welcome visitors starting at 10:30am.  In lieu of flowers donations may be sent to the Parkinson's Foundation or Juvenile Diabetes Foundation Research Foundation (JDRF) on behalf of his granddaughter Sydney who lives with Type 1 Diabetes.  JDRF One Walk, Greater Houston Area 2023: Strides for Sydney - JDRF One Walk.  The family would like to thank the caregivers of Wood Glen Court Assisted Living for their care and compassion, especially over the last few weeks.
