Ellen Marino (nee Ellen Ryan Mary Dalgleish), age 89, passed away peacefully in her sleep in the early morning hours of August 14, 2020.    She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Marino, in January 1988.   She is survived by her daughter, Anne Marino, son-in-law Jeff Clark and Anne's Godmother, Carmen Marrin.   She had a deep fondness for her primary caregiver Christina Joseph and regarded Christina's three sons, Tre, Donavin and Alex as though they were her own grandchildren.

Ellen was born in Brooklyn, New York on June 26, 1931.  She attended Fontbonne Hall Academy in Brooklyn and Our lady of the Elms College in Chicopee, Massachusetts where she earned a bachelor's degree in Education and History.   After graduating from the Elms she attended Boston College where she continued her study of History.  She taught first grade in the Birch Lane School in Massapeqiua, New York until her marriage to Joseph Marino.  After her marriage, Joseph's job with Shell Oil brought them from Brooklyn to Great Neck, New York, and Berkeley, California before settling into the Huntwick Forest Community in Houston, Texas.

She was a long time member of the Women's Institute of Houston and an active member of the St. Ignatius of Loyola Catholic Church in Spring, Texas.   She always had a generous spirit and enjoyed volunteering with various church programs and projects.

Over the years, Ellen traveled widely to Europe, Australia, Africa, Asia, and Central and South America.  Italy and China were two of her favorite destinations.  She was a good friend and an enthusiastic observer of the world around her.  She loved exploring museums and art galleries.

A Catholic mass will be held in remembrance of her life at the St. Ignatius of Loyola Catholic Church on Monday, August 24, 2020 at 11 AM.   In lieu of flowers, please send donations in her name to the MD Anderson Cancer Center or the charity of your choice. The interment will be private.
