Obituary

Ellen Arthur Jones, loving wife of 39 years to her husband Fred Paul Jones, went to be with the Lord on September 26, 2020.

Ellen was born on April 25, 1942 in Pilot Point, Texas. She graduated Class of 1960 from Thomas Jefferson High School in Dallas, Texas, and from there went on to receive her degree in Education from North Texas State University in Denton, Texas. It was there that she joined Chi Omega sorority and it became the source of many friendships. She decided she wanted to specialize in how to teach underprivileged kids how to read, and went on to receive her Masters in Education at East Texas State University, now Texas A&M University at Commerce.

She began a long career that included teaching multiple grade levels, substitute teaching, and years of in-home tutoring. She would allow kids to come over to her house to play pool on her pool table if they would allow her to tutor them for an hour. She wanted the best for them! While teaching full-time, she pursued her Masters Degree in Computer Science from the University of Texas at Dallas. Upon completion in 1977, she worked for many different companies in their IT departments, as well starting her own IT consulting business, Knowledge Access Systems. In 1980, while working for Texas Instruments in Dallas, Texas, she met Fred Jones whom she would later marry on September 4, 1981.

Her greatest joy was spending time with family. In addition to being an amazing wife to Fred, she was a wonderful mom to her only child, Jemma. They were very close, and fortunately Jemma was able to give Ellen her most favorite role of Ma-maw to 3 grandchildren, who in Ellen's mind, were the most perfect people to ever grace the planet. She loved and spoiled them with abandon.

Ellen is survived by her husband, Fred Paul Jones, of Longview, Texas; daughter Jemma Irish and son-in-law Derek Irish of Houston, Texas; grandchildren Cassidy Irish, UCLA student, Elisa Irish, Texas A&M student, and Jack Irish, Memorial High School student in Houston; and brother Joseph Weldon Arthur of Waco, Texas and his wife, Judy. Her parents, Weldon Arthur and Vera Inez Arthur, preceded her in death.

A family graveside service will be held Sunday, October 4th at 1pm in Tomball, Texas. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Ellen's favorite charity, Village Schools International. Please visit http://www.villageschools.org/donate.html if you would like to honor her memory in a very tangible, impactful way. Please mention "In memory of Ellen Jones" in the comments above the credit card section.
