Elise I. Mungovan, age 82, passed away peacefully August 28, 2020 due to complications from Parkinson's disease. She was born February 10, 1938 in Chicago Heights, Illinois and adopted by Charlotte and Edward Schmaedeke.  She married William (Bill) T. Mungovan, Sr. on August 13, 1960 and celebrated 60 years of marriage prior to her death.

Elise had a life-long love of teaching.  She graduated from St. Xavier University and started her career teaching kindergarten in Steger, Illinois.  When she started her family, she paused her career to focus on her children.  She used her teaching skills while actively supporting them through scouting, band, sports and other extracurricular activities.  She is remembered fondly by many friends of her children as "Sweet Elise", a caring and generous woman with a great sense of humor.  As her children got older, she returned to teaching in Illinois, and after relocating to California, she continued teaching at Sylvan Learning Centers.

When she retired, Elise and Bill settled in Ohio and spent time travelling to see friends and family, especially grandchildren.  She took great pride in their accomplishments and was active in their lives.  She started crafting and creating personalized cards for birthdays, anniversaries, and other events, and everyone that was fortunate enough to receive a card she made knew that they were special and loved.

Elise is survived by her husband: William, four children: Elizabeth (Theodore) Giehl, William Mungovan Jr., Marilouise (Richard) Karner and Edward (Jennifer) Mungovan, and 10 grandchildren: Adam Giehl, Jessica Dulaney, Keegan Mungovan, Duncan Mungovan, Daniel Karner, Matthew Karner, Chloe Mungovan, E.J. Mungovan, Charlotte Mungovan, and Carolynn Mungovan.  She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, William M. Schmaedeke.
