Elisa Juarez Barrera was born in Carrizo Springs, Texas to Felipe and Margarita Juarez on December 8th, 1943. Elisa passed away on August 9th, 2022 at the age of 78 surrounded by her family in Houston, Texas.

A graduate of Texas A&I University, Elisa married Gilberto Barrera in 1967, and gave birth to three children - Jessica, Veronica, and Juan. She was a devoted grandmother to nine grandchildren - Vincent, Nicholas, Elise, Brandon, Bradley, Emilie, Isabella, Ava, and Dean. Her grandchildren spent many wonderful days under her loving care and treasured their time with their Granny. Elisa was also a dedicated teacher for the Houston Independent School District, where she served her students for over 30 years. She was an avid reader and listened to musicals, classical music, and opera. Elisa had an affinity for birds and gardening, and enjoyed Star Trek and science fiction books by authors like Isaac Asimov. She gave generously of herself to her family and friends. In her retirement from teaching, Elise continued to serve others by volunteering at Northwest Assistance Ministries.

Elisa is preceded in death by her mother Margarita Juarez and father Felipe Juarez, her sister Irma Esquivel, her nephew Joel Garza, her half sister Eva Gomez, and her half brothers Ben, Tony, Gene, Felipe Jr, and Eligio Juarez. She is survived by her husband Gilberto, her three children, her nine grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, and her sisters Tina Juarez, Olga Garza, and Manuela Juarez.

Graveside Inurnment Services will be held Friday, September 2nd , 2022 at 1:30 pm at the Houston National Cemetery, 10410 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston, Texas 77038. In lieu of flowers, the family invites you to make a donation to the Northwest Assistance Ministries in Elisa's honor here .
