Obituary

Eleanor a L. Gale was born in Chicago, Illinois on Oct. 15, 1926 and passed away peacefully in Houston, TX on January 5, 2019. She is preceded in death by her husband of 62 years Edward T. Gale. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Edward R. and Laura Gale, of Chicago, Illinois; her daughter and son-in-law Elizabeth and Gary Potts of Willis, Texas , sister Hildegard Warsewa of Chicago, Illinois , as well as nieces and nephews.

Eleanora's life made an impact on those close to her, as well as in history. She was a strong, independent woman when it was not always fashionable to be so. During World War II, her fluency in English and German enabled her to work as an interpreter for the British. She translated at a number of prominent war crimes trials, and her skills were put to good use on behalf of the Allies. As a young woman she held jobs in Chicago before she was married. She laughingly related that she met her husband, Ed, while she was walking down a Chicago street. He drove by and was attracted to her, and the sweater she was wearing. She enjoyed laughing a lot , reading, spending time with friends, rescuing animals, and giving back to those less fortunate.

The family will greet friends from 9-10 am, Thursday, January 10, 2019 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 5201 Spring Cypress Rd., Spring, Texas with funeral services to begin at 1 0 am. Interment will follow at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery.
