Obituary

Eleanor Cornelia DeRubeis, 91, passed from this life on December 2, 2023 in Houston, TX. She was born November 9, 1932 in San Antonio, TX to Teofil and Veronica Zigmond.

Eleanor DeRubeis, was born Eleanor Cornelia Zigmond, to parents of strong Polish lineage. Both her mother and father came from large families that consisted of 12 children each and who were long time settlers to the San Antonio area. Her family-owned hundreds of acres of land and farmed that land for generations. Eleanor and her seven siblings were raised in that farming tradition of self-sustaining life and hard work. Eleanor was an energetic child from the start and that energy lasted her entire life. Early on she became a career gal and did so for several years before meeting and marrying the love of her life, Lidio DeRubeis. After marrying she traveled throughout Europe with her new husband Lidio or Lee as he was called. They enjoyed their new life in France where Lee worked. She loved to reminisce and talk of their daily life back then and the people they met. After returning to the states, they began their family in Massachusetts where David and Lisa were born, then onto Arizona where their third child, James was born. By 1967 the family settled in Friendswood, TX where they set up permanent roots for their children. Eleanor became active in many different areas of home, community and a part time career. She had a great love of reading and worked for B. Dalton Bookstore for over 25 years. She volunteered at the Mother's Day Out program at Friendswood United Methodist Church and assisted in her friends catering company. She loved to cook and host holidays. She took great pride in her homemaking. She had a knack for many things, loved shopping and spending time with her family.

Those left to cherish her memories are her children, David DeRubeis and wife Angela, James DeRubeis and wife Kristi, Lisa Blount and husband Kevin along with their daughters Michelle DeVeer and husband Kevin, their sons Logan and Camden and Tracey Sherrod and husband Jacob, their sons Jackson and Nathan. As well as numerous Nieces and Nephews, great Nieces and Nephews, and great-great Nieces and Nephews.
