Egbert Hsiting Chang 張熙庭 passed away on May 18, 2022 at the age of 80 years old.  Egbert was born in Shanghai, China to Tung Chao Chang 張東朝 and Yu Feng Wong 王玉鳳 on February 5, 1942.

Egbert grew up in Shanghai, China and in Taipei, Taiwan.  He met Rosa Lee 李煥珠while attending Chung Yuan Christian University and later graduated with a BS in Hydraulic Engineering in 1965.  After college, Egbert served as a 2nd lieutenant in the Taiwan military and taught math at an army training academy.  After he received his Masters in Civil Engineering, Egbert and Rosa were married in 1969 in Taiwan.  They started their first home together in Lansing, Michigan where he earned his PhD from Michigan State University in 1971. Upon graduating, Egbert started his career at Bechtel as a structural engineer.

Egbert and his family moved to Houston, Texas in 1975 to join Brown & Root. In the early 80's, Egbert and Rosa started their first company focused on real estate development and management. They worked tirelessly at their various businesses, while serving their local church and community.  Over time, Egbert and Rosa expanded their entrepreneurial endeavors to Taiwan and China, traveling there often and instilling in their children an appreciation for their cultural roots.

Over the last 20 years, Egbert enjoyed traveling the world with his children and grandchildren, often collecting local coins and stamps to commemorate his travels.   He was a fun-loving grandfather and always available with a word of wisdom. Egbert also found great meaning in supporting the local community in the areas of education and healthcare through his RLC Memorial Foundation.  His commitment to education was celebrated by the establishment of the Rosa Lee and Egbert Chang Professorship at the University of Pennsylvania.

Egbert is survived by his children Nancy Chang 張蘭欣  (married to X.D. Yang 楊向東) and Norbert Chang 張祖欣 (married to Jean Chang陳怡君), his seven grandchildren (Eric Yang  楊清源Joshua Yang 楊德源, Colbert Chang 張良信, Osbert Chang 張良義, Mark Yang 楊正源, Maubert Chang 張良平, and Kerbert Chang 張良和) and his five siblings (Jung-Jung Chang 張蓉蓉, Yi-Jung Chang 張怡蓉, Nan-Ting Chang 張南庭, Nien-Ting Chang 張念庭, Chi-Ting Chang 張企庭).
