Edward Lewis Nielsen, 87, was born in Kansas City, MO and resided in Houston since 1972. He passed away peacefully in his sleep on December 15, 2017. He is survived by his wife, Judith of 58 years; sons, Peter (Cheryl) Nielsen of San Antonio, Hans (Cindy) Nielsen of Houston, daughters Anne-Marie (Leon) Hayduchok of Houston and Karen Nielsen of Houston; grandchildren Kristin, Karl, and Erik Nielsen, Erika and Katrina Nielsen, and Kirstin, Lilia and Annika Hayduchok; and brothers Peter Alan Nielsen and Wallace Anders Nielsen. Edward is preceded in death by his father, Peter Emanuel Nielsen, mother, Margaret Earl Nielsen, brother, John (Jack) Earl Nielsen and sister Shirley Koenig.

After graduating from Carnegie Tech in 1953 with a degree in chemical engineering, he served two years in the United States Army Chemical Corps in Japan. He subsequently worked for Shell Chemical Company for the next 42 years. He was honored to serve God through his work at Kinsmen Lutheran Church where he was a long-standing member, congregational president, and stewardship committee member. He earned the rank of Eagle Scout as a youth and as an adult volunteered as a Boy Scout and Girl Scout leader. He especially enjoyed camping outings, including Philmont Scout Ranch. Edward also served as president of the Norchester Dolphins Swim Team. He loved to swim and all of his children and grandchildren have followed in his flippers. In his retirement, he enjoyed traveling abroad to Europe, Norway and Denmark with his grandchildren.

Visitation will be Thursday, December 21, 2017 between 5:00-7:00 pm at Klein Funeral Home 16131 Champion Forest Drive, Spring, TX 77379. Services will be held at Kinsmen Lutheran Church, Friday, December 22, 2017 at 11:30 am. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to REACH Unlimited at 11832 Mueller Cemetery Rd, Cypress, TX 77429 or Kinsmen Lutheran Church Endowment Fund.
