Edward was born on July 8, 1939 in Conroe, TX. He was the only son of Willie and Verna Dalby and brother to Loree. He grew up most of his young life in Reklaw, TX where he enjoyed tending to the various farm animals he helped raise, riding his horse, Lady, attending to the lawn and garden with his mother, pedaling strawberries on his bicycle to the locals, tossing the newspaper before going to school and going bird hunting with his bird dog, Joe.

He later attended London High School in New London, TX, where he graduated class of 1957. He enjoyed discussing about the London High School gas explosion that occurred before he attended and later visiting the memorial that is still there. He enjoyed attending the high school reunions and reminiscence about the past and current stories. He went on and attended Kilgore Junior College in Kilgore, TX. He spent his summers spending time playing dominoes at the local domino hall and working with his dad on the oil rigs for Humble Oil which later became Exxon Mobil.

From there, he decided to volunteer to go into the US Navy before he would have been drafted into the army.  He was stationed in San Diego, California naval base where the US Marines were their "Navy babysitters."  He was in the US Navy for 4 years where he was a photographer and radar man on the P2V aviation planes. He got to explore many different countries like Okinawa, Japan; Philippines, Guam and Vietnam to name a few. He later earned an Air Medal Award for his military flight times and duties during the Vietnam War.

He came back home to Texas to gain various occupations in construction, vending machine sales and later coffee sales and coffee machine repairs.

He was a coffee salesman for Farmer Brothers Coffee in August of 1975 where he met the love of his life, Faye, a waitress at the local Towers Hotel, in the Texas Medical Center. After 4 months of dating, they wed in December 1975 in Pasadena, TX. He also took on the fatherly role of helping to raise Faye's two young men, Daryl and Jeff.

In December 1978, he became a proud father to his only daughter, Crystal. He helped to teach and raise her to become an independent woman.

Edward also supported his family by working part time with Button's Inventory Services as a grocery auditor with the various grocery stores throughout Houston and Texas until 1998. He worked many early and long hours side by side with Joe Buttons and enjoyed working with him. He later retired from Farmer Brothers Coffee in June 2006, after 37 years, where he then took life easier.

He made the decision to keep himself busy by playing golf with the "old people" at Jersey Meadows Golf Club in Jersey Village, TX on Tuesdays. He played dominoes, Moon, 42, and 88 most days of the week at various places around town but later settled for the "old people" at Cypress United Methodist Church in Cypress, TX on Thursday mornings when he was not working on the "honey do" list around home.

He loved spending his time drinking coffee any time of day or any type of weather because "it cooled you off." You would always find him reading the Houston Chronicle newspaper, keeping up with the Houston traffic and news, taking care of his "best bud," Eddie, his grand dog, playing dominoes, Moon, cards, Sudoku, Word Search and Yahtzee with the family. He also loved watching the local high school football games, Houston Texans, Astros and Rockets along with various college football games.

He enjoyed passing on his knowledge to anyone who would listen about stocks, current news, stories from his past, playing dominoes, playing pool and ping pong and any other wisdom he felt was needed to pass along like household maintenance repairs.  He was known for having lots of patience as a math and algebra tutor and student driving instructor to his own children.

He had a dry sense of humor and quick witted ways. He loved to joke about how it was easy to spend someone else's money when it came to politicians. There was an ongoing joke about how the Bible states, that only men are to make coffee since "Hebrews," which he made plenty of.

He was a long time customer of Larry's Barber Shop located on FM 1960 in Houston, TX where he enjoyed getting his hair cut and hearing about the local barber shop gossip.

He attended Cypress Bible Church in Cypress, TX with his wife for the last 8 years.

Military and veterans were dear to his heart. He volunteered his time and money multiple times helping to place wreaths on veteran's graves for Wreaths Across America at Houston National Cemetery and he was an avid supporter of Veterans of Foreign Wars since 2001.

Edward peacefully went to his glorious, heavenly home to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, January 14th. The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at HCA Healthcare North Cypress and Kindred Hospital Northwest for their hard work and dedication in taking care of him.

He is preceded in death by his father, Willie Dalby, his mother, Verna Dalby, and his sister, Loree Taylor. He is survived by his wife, Faye Dalby, Cypress, TX, sons, Daryl and Linda Whatley; Jeff and Tina Whatley, and daughter, Crystal Dalby; grandson, Travis and Ashley Whatley; granddaughters, Danielle and Kallanna Manjunath, Michaela Whatley and Caroline Whatley; great granddaughters, Grace and Hazel Whatley. Grand dogs: Eddie and Sophie; brother-in law, Jack and Caroline Taylor; niece, Jackie Taylor, nephews, Robert and Debbie Taylor; Roger and Stacey Taylor and numerous friends he met along the way.

Visitation will be on Monday, January 24th from 5PM-8PM at Klein Funeral Home on 9719 Wortham Blvd, Houston, TX 77065. Funeral is on Tuesday, January 25th at 10 AM at Klein Funeral Home. Burial will follow at 12:45 PM at Houston National Cemetery on 10410 Veteran's Memorial Dr., Houston, TX 77038.  The family respectfully requests that masks be worn by all attending.
