Obituary

Edna Marie Devaney, 74 years young, passed away surrounded by her loved ones on October 21, 2022, after succumbing to brain cancer just 5 months after her diagnosis.
Edna was born on July 31, 1948, to William and Mary Klepac in Corpus Christi, Texas. She grew up on a farm on the outskirts of town and graduated from St. John's High School. She was a track star in school, a shadow to her father on the farm, and lover of all animals.
In 1971, she met the love of her life, Michael (Mike) Devaney, on a blind date. It was a match meant for the ages. They married eight months later and not long thereafter moved to Tulsa, OK. Two years later they welcomed their first child, Brian. Longing for family, just six weeks after Brian was in their arms, they found themselves back in Corpus Christi. After four years of having a single child and not a diaper to change, they had their second child, Jason, in 1977.
Edna was a wonderful mother and wife, strong in faith and a devout Catholic. She loved her family dearly and moved mountains to support them in any way she could, ensuring others got what they wanted or needed. From Little League sports and swim team to school plays and other less than stellar performances, she was always there to cheer them on and proudly applaud whether they won or lost. She was a passionate gardener with the greenest of thumbs. She loved her flowers and there wasn't a weed that stood a chance in her soil. Baking was her happy place and she made the best kolaches, strudels, cookies and pies. Her recipes and techniques were so good, she insisted her kids learn the trade and carry it forward. Full of compassion and empathy, there wasn't a stray animal she didn't want to take in or a dry eye whenever one of her pets preceded her over the rainbow. Her love of animals took her to Joyride Center (a horse riding therapy organization) where she volunteered upon retirement, assisting people with diverse abilities and tending to the horses' needs for pets and affection.
Edna was preceded by her mother and father, sister Dorothy Tishler, and sister-in-laws Mary Jane, Joyce, and Linda. She is survived by her husband of 51 years, her two children, Brian and Jason and their spouses, Laura and Wendy, and brothers Ben, William, and Jerry Klepac.
Services will be held at St. Ignatius Loyola Catholic Church located at 7810 Cypresswood Dr. in Spring, Texas on Saturday, October 29, 2022.  Viewing will begin at 10:15 am followed by the Rosary at 10:30 am. Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 am. Reception will be held immediately following services. All are welcome to come share fellowship and stories with family and friends.
A Memorial Service will take place in Corpus Christi at a date and location to be determined.

The family extends sincere gratitude and appreciation to the staff at St. Luke's Health - The Woodlands and Devotion Hospice for all the care and support they provided to Edna and her family over the past five months.
