Eddie Glenn James

At 10:50 AM on Sunday, April 10, 2022, beloved coach, father, and husband Eddie Glenn James passed peacefully into the welcoming arms of his beloved Lord and savior, Jesus Christ. Born October 14, 1929, to John Bayliss Briggs James and Myrtle Viola Cole James in Bristow, OK, and following sudden loss of his parents just over a year later, on November 2, 1930, Eddie was lovingly taken in and raised graciously during The Great Depression by family-friends Effie Elizabeth Embry Worline, Effie's brother Dewey "Dude" Embry and wife Belle, Effie's daughter Goldie Dorothy Fulkerson Goodwin and husband F.H. "Bud," in Bristow, OK. Eddie was an outstanding student and high school athlete in many sports, graduating in 1948 from Magnolia High School, Magnolia, TX. He immediately joined the US Navy Reserves in 1948, serving six years with the USS Valley Forge aircraft carrier while earning his GI Bill and attending college. Eddie graduated from Sul Ross State in 1953, where he also played four years of both football and basketball, earning many accolades. Eddie earned his Master's in Education Degree from Texas Tech University, while also doing graduate work at Colorado School of Mines.

Following Honorable completion of his term with the Navy in 1954, Eddie taught science, drove a school bus route, and coached six-man football, basketball, and track at Borden County "Gail" High School from 1953-1962, accomplishing a six-man football record that included a 45-game winning streak, two state football championships, one state runner-up, and two-time selection as head-coach for the all-state "West" All-Star football team. He had similar successful accomplishments in the other coached sports, including winning District in basketball six consecutive years. In 2009, Coach Eddie James was elected into the "Texas Six-Man Coaches Hall of Fame." He continued to teach science and coach athletics in Seminole, TX from 1962, until finally retiring after 40 years of teaching, in 1992.

Eddie married Clara Ellen Galyon James in 1953, wherein they both taught school in Borden County and Seminole, raising three boys in a wonderful, caring home. Following a divorce in 1993, Eddie married Eloise Brantley Hugon James in 1997. They enjoyed 25 loving years of loving marriage through Eddie's passing. In addition to his love of all things athletic, Eddie was also an avid hunter, fisherman, outdoorsman, golfer, and supportive, sacrificing, loving father. Although Eddie was a ferociously competitive athlete and wasn't shy to speak his mind, he had a very big and kind heart, and his greatest joy came from time with family. Eddie truly committed his life to serving his family, students, athletes, and many others along his life's challenging but fulfilling journey. He was truly loved and will be greatly missed until we are again reunited with Christ Jesus.

Eddie is survived in this life by his loving wife Eloise James, son Rick James and wife Tina, son Coby James, son Brad James and wife Kim, grandchildren Brooke White and husband Michael White, Ashtin James, Rianna James, Mason James, Kelsey Palacios and husband Greg, and Callie James, great grandchildren Fallon White and Bridgette White, nephew Grant Goodwin, and niece Jean Witte and husband Thurman. [Your family?] Eddie was preceded in death by beloved new-born daughter Felicia James, sister Margaret Lola James Shamas, his beloved sister Goldie Dorothy Goodwin, her son Robert Goodwin, and wife Paka, and their daughter Dionna.
