Earle Frederick "Fred" Holmes, age 85, of Cypress, TX, went to be with the Lord on October 19, 2016. Fred was born in Tuxedo, NY, July 22, 1931, to Earle and Mary Holmes. After spending the first 17 years of his life in rural Newark Valley, NY, Fred came to Texas to attend LeTourneau University in Longview where he earned a degree in electrical engineering. While there, Fred met and married Loma Gay Hudson in 1952. After two years of military service in Maryland, he returned to begin his career in the oil business in Longview, TX. His business took him to New Orleans and eventually to Houston, TX, where he and Loma raised five children and were active members of College Park Baptist Church. In 1981, they settled in Cypress, TX and became members of Graceview Baptist Church in Tomball, TX. In 1986, Fred started his own engineering business and retired in 2005.
Fred was preceded in death by his father, Earle Holmes, his mother and stepfather, Mary and Eldred Brown, and his sister Thelma Strope.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Loma Holmes, his daughter Nancy Holmes Oliver (Ben) of Austin, TX, son Brad Holmes (Karen), of Orange, TX, son Mark Holmes of Cypress, TX, son Russell Holmes (Valerie) of New Caney, TX, and son Phillip Holmes of Cypress, TX; his two brothers, Norman Holmes (Barbara) of Virginia Beach, VA and Kenneth Brown (Kathy) of Rochester, MN; Brother in-law Huey Hudson (Marie) of Houston, TX; 13 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, and close friends.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 pm on Friday, October 21, 2016 at the Klein Funeral Home in Tomball. Funeral services will be held at 1 pm on Saturday at the Graceview Baptist Church with the Rev. Brian Donahoo officiating. Burial will follow at the Klein Memorial Park on Highway 249.
