Earl Richter was born in The Heights, Houston, Texas on March 25, 1928. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Earl attended Reagan High School and graduated with Honors. He attended college at UH and HCC where he studied Real Estate, Spanish, and many other courses. He worked as a printer at Humble Oil (later Exxon Mobil) in downtown Houston for three decades. Earl was a boxer and fought in the Golden Gloves; he lifted weights daily until his stroke in 2018; he was an avid reader and wore out several Bibles. He loved playing Chess, Bridge, and 42. He loved many different genres of music (from the Kingston Trio to Classical; he especially loved Gospel hymns), cars, bowling, playing piano, gardening, jogging (daily), bike riding, tennis, ping pong, pool, crossword and jigsaw puzzles, pets (cats and dogs), the Houston Astros, and long summer vacations every year all over America with his family.

Earl was a devout Christian and loved and served the Lord all his adult life doing mission work in the prisons in Mexico and New Orleans. He also preached at the Star of Hope Mission, downtown Houston, for many years. He was a humble man of strong character and a great personality. Earl received Jesus as Lord and Savior as a young adult. He was a Godly man who loved his family with all his heart.

Earl met his wife of 67 years, Nita, at Melrose Bible Chapel in Houston and they married in 1954. Earl and Nita uniquely shared the same birthday, March 25th. Earl's serving the Lord continued -- he was a preacher, teacher, music leader, and provided clean-up work at Melrose Bible Chapel. Earl (and Nita) held weekly home Bible Studies for children in the neighborhood. He joined Spring Baptist Church in 1999 after several years of being a permanent visitor. He continued serving the Lord by singing in the Senior Choir; working in the Widows Ministry, the Homebound Ministry, and Louetta Village Ministry.

Earl had two children, Linda and David, and loved them dearly. He was a great role model for his children. Earl was a joy to know, very kind and generous, extremely intelligent, great sense of humor (he was quite the jokester and won first place in a joke contest at a Family Reunion in Alabama), compassionate, always ready to lend a helping hand to everyone, a true gentleman, never met a stranger, always had a smile, and never said a harmful word about anyone. Earl is at peace and with his Heavenly Father. He will be greatly missed.
