Earl Junior Gary, of Tomball, Texas, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, at the age of 94. He was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Gary; his daughter, Theresa Gary Hardmann; his parents, Melvin and Ora Gary; three of his sisters:  Darlene Gary, Donna Casto, and Doris Osborne; and his brother-in-law, John Downs.  Earl is survived by his sister, Carolyn Gary; his sons, Brent Gary and wife Dana, and Mike Gary and wife Elaine; his grandchildren: Brandon Gary and wife Erin, Richard Gary and wife Heather, Heather Bixby and husband Matt, and Beca Nelson and husband Craig; and his eleven cherished great-grandchildren: Mia Gilson, Lilly Gilson, Ivy Gary, Skylar Gary, Briley Gary, Reese Gary, Owen Gary, Ava Bixby, Emmaline Bixby, Emma Nelson, and Hayley Nelson. Earl's legacy of faith, family, and kindness lives on through each of them.

Earl was born on January 16, 1931, in Lockbourne, Ohio, to Melvin and Ora Gary.  When he wasn't in school, he was hard at work helping with chores on the family-operated dairy farm. He graduated from Westerville High School in 1949, and in July of 1951, he embarked on his next great adventure: serving in the United States Navy. While on leave on January 1, 1953, Earl met the love of his life, Nancy Lee Downs. After a whirlwind courtship of just seven days, the two were married on January 8, 1953, beginning a devoted partnership that would last 56 years. Earl was honorably discharged in 1955 after serving aboard the USS Yorktown. Among his fondest memories from his time in the Navy was helping create the largest cake ever built on a naval vessel—a 1,382-pound replica of the ship that took 36 hours to complete.

Earl was no stranger to hard work, a trait that shone throughout his 45-year career with Kroger's Country Oven Bakery. Before serving in the Navy, he began as a 'bread twister' in the pastry department of the central bakery. His position was waiting for him as soon as he returned from serving in the Navy. Earl steadily rose through the ranks, ultimately retiring as a District Manager. His career with Country Oven Bakery took his family on a journey across states, from Ohio to Kentucky, and finally to Texas in 1976, where they planted lasting roots.

During the early years of his retirement, Earl and his wife, Nancy, traveled across the United States in their RV, exploring every state except Rhode Island. Along the way, they made lifelong friends whose companionship enriched their journey and remained close to their hearts. In his later retirement years, Earl found joy in spending time with family—especially over a good cup of coffee or a hearty meal. He cherished his Wednesday men's fellowship and faithfully taught Sunday school at his home church, Graceview Baptist. Earl served the Lord wholeheartedly through his church, and he held his Graceview Baptist family close to his heart.

Earl will be fondly remembered for his unwavering faith in the Lord, his deep devotion to family, his warm and welcoming spirit, and—naturally—his joyful affection for ice cream and all things sweet.
