Dwight Edward Miller, 72, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on September 20, 2026 at his home in Tomball, Texas. Dwight was born February 15, 1954 in McPhearson County, Nebraska as the youngest child of Orval and Vera June Miller. Dwight lived in the Sandhills of Western Nebraska throughout his elementary school years until his family moved to Ogalalla, Nebraska when Dwight was in the 7th grade. He went on to finish high school there where he excelled in wrestling, baseball, football, and band for the Ogalalla Indians. Dwight also became an avid water skier on the grand waters of Lake McConaughy where he spent his free time most summers.

After a short stint at Rockmont College (now Colorado Christian University), where he was first introduced to the beautiful of game of soccer (a lifelong love), Dwight transferred to York College in York, Nebraska. From there, the transfer from York to Trinity College in Chicago turned out to be the best decision of his life for it was there that he met the love of his life, wife of 47 years, and mother to their eight (yes, 8!) kids, Nancy Jo Buhr.

At this point in life, Dwight fell in love with aviation. He built an amazing career as a flight instructor, pilot for Rocky Mountain Airways, and eventually Captain for Continental Airlines. He retired from the airlines in 2014. Dwight loved to fly and the stories from his career were always captivating.

Dwight and Nancy cultivated a full and fun life in Nebraska, Kansas, Colorado, Ohio, and Texas where Dwight loved nothing more than to cheer on his eight children at their innumerable sporting events. He was never far from a bleacher in the gym or lawn chair on the pitch, always with camcorder in hand. Dwight was always good at having fun and finding joy in life. He loved his Nebraska Cornhuskers, Liverpool FC, the USA Men’s National Soccer team, his garden, and of course his annual trip to Hahn’s Peak, Colorado to chase Rocky Mountain elk.

Dwight leaves precious memories and countless stories with his wife Nancy, and eight children: Keegan (Maggie) Miller of Fon Du Lac, WI, Abby (Chris) McClellan of Charlotte, NC, Suzann Miller of Omaha, NE, Carly (Tyler) Light of Fort Mill, SC, Brenna (Dane) Beakler of Forest, VA, Ethan (Allison) Miller of Tomball, TX, Logan (Caroline) Miller of Colorado Springs, CO, Molly (Mason) Aguilar of Alvin, TX, and 20 beloved grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Orval and Vera June Miller, his cherished friends and brothers-in-law Ben Huffine, John Ireland, and Ron Dobbins, and sister-in-law Mary Beth Buhr.

Dwight will be remembered by his family and friends always. His presence around the dinner table (especially his reading of the poem ‘When Father Carved the Turk’), at games, in his rocker on the front porch, in the mountains, and on the prairie will be sorely missed. But his spirit and stories will remain with us always.

Above all, we thank God that Dwight accepted Jesus as his Savior at a young age and lived a life devoted to the God of the Bible. He took Ephesians 6:4 seriously and has passed on his faith to his kids and grandkids. We are confident that he is at his final home, in Heaven, with Jesus. He will be remembered as a devoted follower of Christ, husband, father, grandad, friend, uncle, and son. Well done good and faithful servant.

We are celebrating his life on Saturday, Sept. 26, 2026.
