Thomas Dwight Bowles was born on October 10, 1946, in Austin, Texas, to Garnet Davison Bowles and Julia Mae Ross Bowles. From an early age, Dwight exemplified the principles of honesty, diligence, and generosity as instilled by his parents. At just seven years old, he worked side by side with his father as a mechanic's apprentice in Luling, Texas. Over the years, he developed significant expertise in automotive repair, and after graduating from Luling High School in 1965, Dwight enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he worked on aircraft during the Vietnam War.

Upon completion of his four years of service to our country, Dwight obtained his bachelor's degree in accounting from Southwest Texas University (now Texas State University) and after a brief stint trying his hand at farming in New Mexico, he began his career in the "oil patch" at Mobil.  Quickly, Dwight figured out that he hated accounting and decided to pursue his Master's in Business Administration at the University of Texas in the Permian Basin.

Dwight's professional journey from baby landman to Vice President of Land took him on a tour of Texas, Louisiana, and Oklahoma. He spent the majority of his "work life" at HNG, American Quasar, King Ranch, and St. Mary before finishing his career at Samson Resources where he mentored many new landmen, teaching them the tools of the trade. Whether leading by example or working quietly behind the scenes, he was known for his humility, wisdom, and collaborative spirit.

Though Dwight found land work a fulfilling means to provide for his family, his greatest passion was following his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He was a faithful member of every church he attended, serving as a deacon at First Baptist Church of Midland, Texas and Champion Forest Baptist Church in Houston. For the past 9 years, he was proud to call Redeemer Church in Tomball home. He was a worshipper and loved greeting newcomers. He always had a story to share, and he never met a stranger. To his friends, he was a source of laughter, insight, and reliable companionship, but to his family, he was everything!

Dwight married the love his life, Jana Kaye Mosley on April 6, 1974, and their home quickly became a sanctuary of warmth and understanding, where traditions flourished and every visitor was welcomed with open arms. He took immense pride in the achievements of his children and grandchildren, investing in their growth and happiness at every turn while offering guidance and encouragement along the way.

The Lord called Dwight to his heavenly home on July 5, 2025. He was preceded in death by his parents, Garnet and Julia Bowles; his previous wife, Janine Beth Clark Bowles; his precious baby daughter, Rachelle Danine Bowles; his father-in-law, James Welburn Mosley; and his sister-in-law, Shirley Morrison.

Dwight is survived by his devoted wife of 51 years, Jana, whose steadfast love and partnership were the cornerstone of his happiness. He leaves behind his children: daughter, Lori Burtis and her husband John; and son Kevin Bowles and his wife Aimee. His legacy continues through his six grandchildren, whom he adored: William and Finnly Pogue, Judah, Canaan, Annie Beth, and Hallie Joy Bowles.

He is also survived by his dear sister, Gay Nell Hall and husband, J.W.; his mother-in-law, Wanda Mosley; his brothers-in-law, Ken Morrison and Jamie Mosley; and his nephews and nieces—Derek Hall and wife Tina, D'Ann Crowell and husband Kirby, Trey Morrison, and Misty Morrison. Numerous great nieces and nephews, beloved extended family members, and friends also mourn his loss, each touched by his kindness and generosity.

Though we grieve his absence, it is not without hope. He is happy, whole, and experiencing no pain for the first time in a long time, in the presence of his Savior. We find comfort knowing we will see him again! AND we will remember his belly laugh every time we watch the Astros (or the University of Texas Longhorns football team)!

A celebration of Dwight's life will be held on Thursday, July 10, 2025, at Redeemer Church (730 Baker Drive) in Tomball Texas. Family and friends will gather to share stories, offer support, and pay tribute to his remarkable life at 9:30 AM. Services will follow at 11 AM.
