Obituary

Dwight G. Barnhart, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on September 21st, 2024 at the age of 94. Born on June 23rd, 1930 in Flint, Michigan, he was the only child of the late Roy Jackson and Vera Elizabeth (Gaddis) Barnhart.

Dwight grew up in Michigan & Illinois, at 16 he moved to Houston to go to college at The University of Houston. He served in the US Air Force. Throughout his career, as a successful executive in the freight forwarding industry he lived in multiple cities and was able to travel throughout the world but he always returned home to Houston.

He was an avid University of Houston athletic fan and supporter, which allowed him and his family to enjoy many road trips to support their favorite team. Dwight enjoyed spending time with his family and watching sports.

Dwight was a member of the John Wesley Methodist Church, Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. He was a Lifetime Cougar at the University of Houston.

Dwight is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Patricia (Rankin) Barnhart; his 2 children, Penny Watson and (Milton) and David Barnhart and (Alicia); grandchildren, Joshua Watson and (Sarah), Chelsey Laubach and (Brandon), Cassidy "Cricket" Watson, Calley Watson, Brennan Barnhart, and Brody Barnhart; and great-grandchildren, Owen Watson and Everett Watson.

A memorial service will be held on October 14th, 2024 at three o'clock at John Wesley Methodist Church, which is located at 5830 Bermuda Dunes Drive, Houston, TX, 77069.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the University of Houston's Men's Basketball Program in Dwight's honor.
