Obituary

Dustin Vernon Smith left this world far too soon on June 17, 2026, in Spring, Texas, after a cruel battle with a progressive neurodegenerative disease. He was only 46 years old, with his parents, Sam and Patsy Smith, by his side in their home.

Dustin was the most supportive father to his only daughter, Dovie. She was his pride and joy. He possessed a quick wit and a genuinely kind spirit that made everyone around him feel welcome. His hobbies included collecting and customizing one-of-a-kind hats, cars, guns, and motorcycles. He enjoyed singing along to music from many genres, but OG Southside Houston chopped-and-screwed music was his go-to throughout the years.

You could always find Dustin wearing a flat-bill cap and a pair of Vans, even while cruising on one of his custom motorcycles. If you knew Dustin, you knew he was a true foodie, always ready to try a new dish or indulge in a sweet treat. He also had a soft spot for his dogs throughout the years, treating each and every one like a member of the family.

If you were family—or lucky enough to call Dustin your friend—you knew you could count on him. He was the kind of person who would drop whatever he was doing to help someone at any hour.

Though Dustin fought a long, quiet, and courageous battle with frontotemporal dementia (FTD), he lived life on his own terms. The disease could never touch the core of who he truly was, nor diminish the memories he created with those who loved him.

May Dustin's story be remembered not for the struggles he endured, but for the laughter and fun he brought to everyday life.
