Our beloved Duane Miller passed into his heavenly home on April 21, 2019. He was born on May 2, 1927 to Lloyd and Lillian Miller in Marshall, Minnesota.  He served in the Army at the end of WWII and then attended college at the University of Minnesota, graduating with a degree in Civil Engineering.  He relocated to Lockport, Illinois to go to work for Texaco after graduation and there met and married his wife Helen Minkwitz.  He worked his entire career for Texaco before retiring in 1987.  He was preceded in death by his wife Helen Miller, his parents Lloyd and Lillian Miller, and his brother Rolland. Duane is survived by his three children, son Thomas of League City, TX, son John of Houston, and daughter Kristine (Neitman) of Deer Harbor, WA; and son-in-law Keith Neitman, grandson Christopher Neitman, and sister-in-law Donna Minkwitz.

Duane deeply loved his family, immediate and extended, and his community at Kinsmen Lutheran Church and he enjoyed being a treasured grandfather.  He always shunned the spotlight, preferring instead to serve in many ways in the background, doing what needed to be done and ensuring he always gave his best.  When his boys started Little League he became an umpire.  At multiple congregations through the years he was an usher and elder.  After he retired he became a substitute teacher in high school.  And he always, in all ways, was there for his family through all their ups and downs and changes.  He was a man of great integrity and commitment, whose departure from this life will be enduringly felt by many.

A memorial service will be held at Kinsmen Lutheran Church on Friday, May 3.  Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m., with the service following at 11:00.  A light lunch will be served afterward.  A family interment is planned at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that anyone who wishes to do so may make a donation to the charity of their choice in Duane's name.
