Douglas Dean Beckmann of Tomball, Texas passed away on Sunday, October 31, 2021, at the age of 79. His extraordinary life took him from a farm in Garland, Nebraska to the upper echelons of the corporate world, but to us, he was our precious husband, dad, grandpa, and great-grandpa.

Doug was born on April 27, 1942, to Walter and Birdeen Beckmann. He and his twin brother, Don, joined their two older siblings, Loren and Wilma, with Dennis following as the youngest. Growing up in a family of industrious dairy farmers who also owned the town grocery store, engrained in Doug a strong work ethic that he used in everything he did throughout his lifetime. From earning his Masters of Science in Geology from Nebraska University in 1967 to his 27-year-long career at Shell Oil Company, Doug was a natural leader. After his retirement as President of Pectan International, a subsidiary of Shell Oil, in 1995, he shifted that same professional commitment to many years of service to his community and church. Doug earned his Master Gardener Recognition from Mercer Arboretum and used this expertise to design and build the beautiful gardens that church members admire still today. On a volunteer's salary, he served as Director of Salem Lutheran for 15 years and as one of the most valuable members of the Maintenance Volunteer Program. Doug gave generously and humbly to everything he believed was important and noble, and he did so without the need for recognition. This was who Doug Beckmann was.

It was only natural for Doug's intelligence, generosity, and strong convictions to carry over in his role as the respected patriarch of the family he and his sweet wife, Kathi, began building almost 50 years ago. From their early years in New Orleans to their life in the Houston area, Doug and Kathi worked together to create a beautiful foundation for their four children, Heather, Mark, David, and Amanda. With love and wisdom, Doug devoted his life at home to being a provider, mentor, and encourager for his kids. With a balance of unmatched kindness and tough love, Doug instilled an unwavering sense of safety and security in his wife and children that they will forever cherish. This is who Doug Beckman was.

Doug's devotion to the things he loved did not fade in his later years, and there is no doubt that his grandchildren and great-grandchildren benefited from his love and attention. With each of his nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, Doug cultivated special and unique relationships. He supported their interests, cheered them on in the bleachers, showed them how things worked, and engaged them in long attentive conversations. He taught them that family is the most important thing in life, and above all, took the time to give each child his undivided attention whenever they were around. This is who Doug Beckmann was.

Douglas Beckmann is survived by his lovely wife, Kathleen Raines Beckmann; daughter, Heather Marie Kaldis, and her husband, Michael Dalman; Mark Douglas Beckmann, and his wife, Jill; son, David Christopher Beckmann; daughter, Amanda Joy Badnek; grandson, Troy Alan Calfee, and his wife, Peyton; granddaughter, Haley Elizabeth Kaldis; grandson, George "Logan" Kaldis; granddaughter, Carter Addison Beckmann; granddaughter, Finley Raines Beckmann, granddaughter, Tatem Renay Beckmann; grandson, Hunter Douglas Badnek; grandson, Jackson Edward Badnek; granddaughter by marriage, Savannah Jane Glenn; great-grandson, Rhett Allen Robert Calfee; great-grandson, Kiptyn Douglas Calfee; and great-grandson, Breck Robert Calfee.

A celebration of Doug Beckmann's life will be held on Sunday, November 7th, 2021, at Salem Lutheran Church with a visitation starting at 2:00 PM and the funeral service to follow at 3:00 PM. The family will be holding a private burial ceremony.
