Dorothy Harriett Bartels, age 87, passed away, Wednesday, February 21, 2024.
Dorothy was born in Brooklyn, New York, in 1937. After high school she worked as a Dictaphone Operator for DuPont in the Empire State Building. On her lunch breaks she would often walk to Battery Park where she would sit and admire "Lady Liberty". She met her future husband at Hanson Place United Methodist Church in Brooklyn, New York, where they married in 1963. After marriage she became a homemaker and devoted her life to her family.
Dorothy enjoyed crocheting, knitting, needlework, candle making, shopping, and adding to her mother's extensive collection of salt and pepper shakers. She loved spending time with her husband and daughters and was overjoyed when her granddaughter joined the family. She also loved sharing many stories about growing up with her three brothers.
She will be remembered for her resilience and dry sense of humor. And as a loving and caring wife, mother, and grandmother.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years: Ralph Kelley and brothers: Robert and Donald Bartels. She is survived by her brother: Richard Bartels and his wife Barbara, daughters: Nancy Durden, Barbara Stephens and her husband John, grandchild: Madison Stephens, as well as nieces, nephews, and extended family.
