Dorothy C. "Dottie" Braunschweiger

1927-2016

Dorothy Braunschweiger, daughter of Wayne and Shellie Crawford was born in Paris, Tennessee, passed away ­­September 13th in Houston.

Dottie enjoyed a successful career in fashion, which she began as a professional model doing runway, print, and television commercial work before accepting the position of Fashion Coordinator for Sakowitz Brothers of Houston, Texas. In the 1960's Dottie was frequently called upon by the Houston Chronicle for photo opportunities regarding community and seasonal interest stories. After leaving Sakowitz Dottie went on to host the first women's noonday television talk show "Fashion With Dottie Braunschweiger" in Beaumont/Port Arthur as well as teaching a fashion course at Lamar University. Also during her time in Beaumont she owned and operated Dottie B's, a couture women's clothing store. Later in her career, she moved to San Antonio, Texas where she worked for Julian Gold women's stores for many years. Upon retiring from her career in fashion, Dottie served a term as Chairperson of Docents of the McNay Art Museum in San Antonio,Texas and participated on several committees during her tenure. In 2013 she moved to Houston to be closer to family.

Dottie is survived by her children Ronald V. Congemi (Nancie) of Kennett Square, PA, Tana C. Morgan (William) of Houston, Kevin W. Congemi (Maria) of Houston, and Carla B. McBride (Patrick) of Aurora, CO . Also surviving her are five beautiful grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

She is predeceased by her husband Carl A. Braunschweiger, sister Gloria Crawford, brother Doyle Crawford, and a grandson.

The family of Dorothy will receive guests from 10 to 11 am on Saturday, Sept. 17, 2016 at the Klein Funeral Chapel on Champion Forest.  A private family entombment will be held.
