Dorothy Ann Bartlett (nee: Whiteman), following a long and eventful life, passed peacefully December 6, 2023, having spent her final days with her daughter Suzanne and son Tom by her side.  She was 98 years old.

Ann was a resilient, independent, strong, compassionate, stubborn, determined woman who rode a horse to her two-room elementary school in her youth and mastered modern tech and social media with ease in her later years.

She used her computer, iPad and phone to stay connected with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren spread out across the county, allowing each of them to build special relationships with her that they will each cherish.  She was a voracious reader and an avid Jeopardy fan.  All who she touched have special memories of a strong and unique woman.

Ann was born near Clarksville, Texas, on November 24, 1925.  Her mother was Ruby Parker and her father was Raymond Whiteman.

Only a week before passing, Ann had welcomed much of her family to her 98th birthday party the day after Thanksgiving.

Ann spent the last third of her life in and around Conroe, TX and The Woodlands, TX, but her roots were in both East and West Texas.  Her early years were in the Clarksville area, but she and her mother moved to Kermit during high school.  She graduated from Kermit High School and then received her nursing degree from the Methodist Hospital in Dallas as part of the nurse-cadet program implemented during WWII,

After the war she returned to Kermit and on February 2, 1947, she married William Mabson Bartlett from Fort Worth.

Her first child, her daughter Suzanne, was born in Kermit in November of 1947.  Work took the three of them to live in New Jersey and Frankfurt, Germany.  While in Germany, Ann was often able to visit the major destinations in Europe, including Rome, Paris, London, Copenhagen, Amsterdam, Luxemburg and St. Moritz.

In 1955 work again brought the family back to Texas to Ft. Worth where her sons, William Mabson Bartlett Jr. and Thomas Allen Bartlett were born in 1955 and 1956.  Shortly thereafter the family moved to North Carolina and then to Virginia where they lived in Springfield and Alexandria.

Ann moved back to Texas to Odessa in 1961 when she returned to nursing with jobs in the hospital emergency room and in doctors' offices. All three children were graduates of Permian High School.  Suzanne went on to TCU to get her nursing degree and both Billy and Tom graduated from Texas A&M.

After the boys graduated from college Ann moved to Arlington where she studied for her degree.  From there she moved to Liberty where she worked for a home health nursing company.

Tragically, her son Billy died in an automobile accident in 1982 while returning from a work trip.    After Billy's death Ann, and ultimately her mother Ruby, moved to Conroe. Ann worked for many years in hospitals and doctors' offices.

She met and married Terrence Mattern, a retired professor, in1990 and together they were able to travel extensively throughout the United States.  Terrance passed away in 1999.  Her mother, Ruby Sims, passed away in 2002.

Ann for many years was an active member of The First Presbyterian Church in Conroe, then the Woodlands Community Presbyterian Church, and served as one of the "holy rollers" who prepared the bulletins for Sunday services.

Ann is survived by her daughter, Suzanne Bartlett Craig and Suzanne's husband Bob of The Woodlands, TX and Tom Bartlett and his wife Sue of Midlothian, VA.  Additionally, she is survived by five grandchildren: Scott Collier Craig and his wife Susanna of Austin, TX and Shannon Craig Ponce de Leon and her husband Alex, the children of Bob and Suzanne, and Emily Williams and her husband Drew of Richmond, VA, Parker Bartlett of San Diego, CA and Blaire Bartlett of New York, NY, the children of Tom and Sue.    Ann was also blessed with five great-grandchildren: Anna and Charlie Craig of Austin, Luca and Marco Ponce de Leon of Falls Church and Harvey Williams of Richmond.

Ann was preceded in death by her half-brother Jack Whiteman. His wife Flora Whiteman has also passed.  Both had lived in Oklahoma City.  Ann is survived by half-sisters Lillian Huston of Oklahoma City and Nellie Martin and her husband Weyland of Lubbock, TX
