Doris H. Thompson, 96

Our beloved mother and grandmother Doris Thompson went to be with the Lord on January
19, 2026, in Tomball, Texas. She was 96.

Doris was born August 25, 1929 in Baytown, Texas, to Artie and Dupree Heard. She graduated from Robert E. Lee High School and Sam Houston State University. She taught school in Waynesville, Missouri; Killeen, Texas; and Spring, Texas. She retired from Oak Creek Elementary, now Pat Reynolds Elementary, in 1987.

She married Bobby Glenn Hallonquist in 1950, and they adopted a son, Russell Glenn Hallonquist, and a daughter, Lisa Hallonquist Bair. The couple later divorced, and he preceded her in death. In 1981, she married Cullen Thompson. They relished time spent with a circle of friends at their home in Houston and their beachside condo in Galveston, as well as visits with family in South Dakota, Montana and Arizona. After Doris's retirement, and until Cullen's death in 2012, they traveled the world together. She filled scrapbooks with memorabilia and photographs of their visits to such places as Antarctica, Machu Picchu, The Holy Land, The Great Wall of China, the Pyramid Fields of Egypt and other intriguing destinations around the globe.

She was an accomplished artist and enjoyed sharing her paintings with friends. She devoted time and energy to developing and refining her creative skills. On one particularly memorable trip, she was able to integrate her love of art and travel, participating in a plein air painting
excursion to France.

Doris was a cherished member of Kinsmen Lutheran Church, where a number of her paintings have been displayed over the years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Cullen; sisters Hattie Joyce Heard, Bonnie Evelyn Heard, and Betty Ann Thain and her husband, Rex Thain; brother D. K. Heard, Jr.; son Russell Hallonquist; daughter Lisa Hallonquist Bair; and step-daughter Kay Thompson
McMillan. Survivors include grandson Nathan Bair of Tomball, Texas; granddaughter Amanda Bair of Magnolia, Texas; great-grandson Kayne Tedder of Magnolia; great-granddaughters Jayde Tedder of Magnolia, and Parys Bair of Houston; great-great-grandson Ezrah Lester of Houston; stepson Bart Thompson of Magnolia, Texas; stepdaughter Jill Thompson Black and her husband, Dan, of Kalispell, Montana; son-in-law Mitch McMillan of Mount Juliet, Tennessee; and beloved friend and longtime caretaker Marbi Cisneros.

Visitation will be Thursday, January 29, from 5-6 p.m. at Klein Funeral Home, 16131 Champion Forest Drive, Houston. Funeral services will be held Friday, January 30, at 11a.m. at Kinsmen Lutheran Church, 12100 Champion Forest Drive, Houston, with private interment at
Sterling White Cemetery, Crosby, Texas.
